Lois Trivett Jones
Mrs. Lois Trivett Jones, 94, of 146 Buck Creek Road, Roan Mountain, Tenn., died Monday, July 16, 2007, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.
Mrs. Jones was born Oct. 7, 1912 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Charlie S. and Virgie Harmon Trivett. She was a homemaker and a member of Beech Valley Baptist Church.
Mrs. Jones is survived by one daughter, Paulette Ward, and husband, Harold, of Elk Park; two sons, Kyle Jones and Paul Jones and wife, Amy, all of Sugar Grove; and one sister, Sue T. Trivette of Beech Creek. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick H. Jones; one daughter, Taru Jones; and two brothers, Dwight and Ivan Trivett.
Services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at Beech Valley Baptist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Bill Warren. Burial followed in the Beech Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.
Hampton Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Albert W. King
Albert W. King was born in the village of Mutoto, the Belgian Congo, Africa, to Presbyterian medical missionary parents, the late Sir Robert Rogers King and his wife, Marguerite Antoinette Van Leaucourt.
Albert was the fifth of six children. In 1931, the family moved to Boone, where he spent his youth.
Albert was a World War II veteran with service in the Phillipines.
He graduated from UNC – Chapel Hill in 1950 with an A.B. in radio-TV. He earned his master’s in social work in 1956.
He was superintendent of public welfare in Iredell County until 1958.
He joined the faculty of the School of Social Work at UNC – Chapel Hill in 1958, and taught in the master’s program and was associate dean until his retirement in 1988.
He was married to Katherine Hennessee King, who preceded him in death on April 20, 2007.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan King Miller of Hillborough N.C., and Laura Bennett King of Alamance County; his three grandsons, Joseph Saul Miller of Wilmington, N.C., Adrian Rowe Miller of Louisville, Ky., and Eric Jeffrey Miller of Durham, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Jasmine Miller, Evan Stinson, Hanna Miller, Caden Miller and Aidan Miller.
He is also survived by a sister, Marguerite Marie King Dean of Fairfield, Conn., and many nieces and nephews.
He passed away peacefully July 14, 2007 at the Twin Lakes Health Center in Burlington NC at the age of 81. His family and friends miss him terribly.
A memorial service will be held at the Twin Lakes Chapel located in the Health Care Center at 100 Wade Coble Drive, Burlington, on Saturday, July 21 at 2 p.m.

Geraldine Earle Lawrence
Mrs. Geraldine Earle Lawrence, 78, of 912 U.S. Hwy. 67 North, Trade, Tenn., passed away on Sunday afternoon, July 8, 2007, at the Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 16, 1928 in Johnson County, Trade, Tenn., a daughter of the late Charles F. and Myrtle Eggers Trivette.
Ms. Lawrence was a 1945 graduate of Cove Creek High School. She was later employed with Woolworth and Cress stores for 10 years and Singleton’s Department Store for 10 years. She was a lifetime member of Zionville Baptist Church. At the age of 12, she accepted Jesus as her personal saviour. She loved attending her church and reading.
Surviviors include three sons, Gary Lawrence and wife, Lona, of Lenoir, David Lawrence of Trade, Tenn., and Douglas Lawrence of Dryden, Va.; one daughter, Jolene Baumgardner of Zionville; one brother, Blaine Trivette and wife, Willa, of Trade, Tenn.; two sisters, Shirley Lilly and husband, Bobby, of Bristol, Va., and Faye Reece of Zionville; three grandchildren, Jason Phipps, Jonathan Phipps and Heather Baumgardner of Zionville; and three great-grandchildren, Bryan Phipps, Daniel Russom and Nora Russom, all of Zionville. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
In addition ot her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil D. Lawrence, her stepmother, Clara L. Trivette, one brother, Robert Bruce Trivette, and one sister, Myrle Marie Icenhour.
Services were conducted July 11 at 2 p.m. at Zionville Baptist Church. Officiating were Pastor Carl Johnson and the Rev. Mark Wagg.
Graveside service and interment followed at the Trade Community Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Larry Rye.

Robert Carl Day

Mr. Robert Carl Day, 86, of West Grandview Heights, Boone, died Monday afternoon, July 16, 2007, at home.
Born in Watauga County Oct. 23, 1920, he was a son of the late Samuel Edward Day Jr. and Mary Martha Beach Day.
Mr. Day was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Boone and was a veteran of World War II, having served five and one half years in the U. S. Navy.
Mr. Day graduated from Hope Mills High School in Thomasville, and received his B. A. and master’s degrees in education from Appalachian State Teacher College.
He was also a member of the Watauga County Historical Society and served on the town of Boone Planning Commission.
Carl was a retried teacher, having taught 32 years at both Appalachian Elementary School and Hardin Park Elementary School.
He was also an avid fly fisherman.
Surviving are: his wife, Iva Dean Norris Day; one son, Robert Brett Day of Maplewood, Minn.; one daughter, Lisa Day of Boone; two granddaughters, Molly and Grace Wilson; one great-grandson, Wyatt Warren; and his extended family, Martin Warren, John Wade and Todd Greene, all of Boone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Day III and Lewis Lee Day and wife , Evelyn Day; and two sisters, Helen Combs and husband, Blaine, and Martha Pierce.
Memorial will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. George Miles. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Paul Vernon Gragg
Mr. Paul Vernon Gragg, 61, of 163 Circle G. Farm, Boone, died Sunday, July 15, 2007, at James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn.
Mr. Gragg was born April 12, 1946 in Watauga County, a son of Edna Parlier Gragg and the late John Milton Gragg. He was an auto dealer for Blue Ridge Truck and Car Mart and a farmer. Mr. Gragg was a member of the Watauga County and North Carolina Cattlemen’s associations and Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
Mr. Gragg is survived by his wife, Dot Combs Gragg of the home; one daughter, Paula Gragg Ferguson, and husband, Matt, of Moravian Falls, N.C.; one son, Mitchell Paul Gragg, and wife, Tammy, of Boone; two granddaughters, Leanna Ferguson of Moravian Falls, and Kasey Gragg of Boone; one grandson, Jake Gragg of Boone; his mother, Edna Gragg of Boone; one sister, Lila Gragg Lowe, and husband, Jim, of Greensboro; three brothers, Johnny Gragg and wife, Brenda, Ray Gragg and wife, Debbie, and Gary Gragg and wife, Donna, all of Boone; and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Combs of Vilas. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Worth Combs.
Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 4 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 3 until 4 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Bud Russell, the REv. Richard Ratlif and the Rev. Don Foster. Military graveside rites and burial will follow in the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Building Fund, 3505 Bamboo Road, Boone, N.C. 28607.

Mary Patricia ‘Pat’ Sherrill Hadley
Mrs. Mary Patricia “Pat” Sherrill Hadley, 74, of Boone, died July 8. 2007, at Preston House Assisted Living in Charlotte, following a long illness.
She was born in Charlotte on June 6, 1933. She was raised in Chapel Hill, N.C., and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from UNC-Chapel Hill. She then became an airline stewardess until she met her husband, Bruce Hadley, and began raising two children. The Hadleys moved to Boone from Miami, Fla., in 1975.
Mrs. Hadley will best be remembered for her wonderful cooking, quilting, laughter, love of all animals and sense of humor.
Survivors include her son, Robert Bruce Hadley, and his new wife, Maria Groumbas Hadley, of Boone; her daughter, Amanda Sherrill Hadley Harriss, and her husband, Raymond Harriss, and their two children, Mason and Miles of Lake Wylie.
Due to the tremendous support provided by Hospice, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Lake Norman, 705 Griffin Street, Suite 203, Davidson, N.C. 28036, in Mrs. Hadley’s name.

Cornelius T. ‘Bud’ Hartley
Mr. Cornelius T. “Bud” Hartley Jr., 81, of Boone, died Wednesday evening, July 11, 2007, at the Watauga Medical Center.
He was born June 5, 1926, in Watauga County, a son of Elsie Johnson Hartley and Cornelius Talmadge Hartley Sr.
Mr. Hartley was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blowing Rock and attended Valle Crucis United Methodist Church. He owned and operated Hartley Electric Shop in Blowing Rock for 29 years, after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Polk Hartley; one son, Neil Hartley, and wife, Audrey, of Boone; two grandsons, Dennis Hartley of Boone and Tal Hartley and wife, Kara, of Denver, Colo.; his great-granddaughter, Eryn Allyson Hartley of Denver, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Ellen Hartley of Blowing Rock; and one brother-in-law, Jim West of Atlanta, Ga. Several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius Talmadge and Elsie Johnson Hartley; and siblings, Grace Hartley Bruck, Marvin Sloan Hartley, Eula Hartley Crisp, Roger Elliott Hartley and Audrey Hartley West; and his mother-in-law, Mattie Lue Polk.
Services were conducted Saturday morning at 11 at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Allen Marsh. Burial followed at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

Conley B. Seatz
Mr. Conley B. Seatz, 88, of 2116 Railroad Grade Road, Todd, died Wednesday evening, July 11, 2007, at Watauga Medical Center.
Mr. Seatz was born April 27, 1919 in Ashe County, a son of the late Roby Wilburn and Barbara Moretz Seatz. He was a retired custodian for Elkland Elementary School, and a member of South Fork Baptist Church.
Mr. Seatz is survived by his wife, Ruth Trivett Seatz of the home; one son, David Seatz of Todd; one daughter, Judy S. Brock and husband, Devon, of Fayetteville; one sister, Grace Wagoner of Todd; three brothers, Ernest Seatz, and Edgar Seatz, both of Todd, and the Rev. Eugene Seatz of Granite Falls.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Nellie Gibson, Hazel Holman, Annie Parsons, Lola Parsons and Edna Greene, and one brother, Wilburn Seatz.
Services were conducted Saturday at South Fork Baptist Church. Officiating were the Rev. Herbert McCoy and the Rev. Eugene Seatz. Burial followed in the Howell Cemetery in Todd.

John A. 'Jack' Silva
Mr. John A. “Jack” Silva, 64, of 26 Treetop Lane, Banner Elk, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at his residence after a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 20, 1942 to the late John Sr. and Goldie Griswall Silva.
Mr. Silva was of the Catholic faith. He was a building contractor and enjoyed drag racing.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Moretz Silva; one daughter, Sonia Spence of Arizona; one son, John Jacky Spence of Arizona; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Silva Family Cemetery on Mining Town Road in Mountain City, Tenn.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Avery County, N.C.

Jerry Danard 'J.D.' Teague
Mr. Jerry Danard “J. D.” Teague, 66, of Lenoir, died Friday evening, July 13, 2007, at Gateway Nursing Center in Lenoir.
Born Dec. 3, 1940 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Fred Alton and Novella Martha Auton Teague. Mr. Teague was an owner-operator truck driver and a member of Blowing Rock Church of God.
Surviving are: three daughters; Lori Harmon and husband, Ned, of Newland, Danita Teague Calloway of Wilkesboro and Angela Teague Turner of Bradenton, Fla.; one son, Danard Wayne Teague and wife, Missy, of Guntown, Miss.; one sister, Kathleen Pitts, and husband, Clarence, of Blowing Rock, two brothers, Billy Alvin Teague and wife, Juanita, and Thomas Boyd Teague and wife, Flowers, all of Lenoir; and 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Kimberly Ann Teague, and six brothers, Dale Auton, Fred Teague Jr., Malcolm Teague, Coolidge Teague, Charles E. Teague and Johnny Teague.
Services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will bethe Rev. Dennis Pitts. The body will lie in state at the chapel from 10 until 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 7:30 at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.

Bradley Gene Trivette
Mr. Bradley Gene Trivette, 39, of Mulberry Lane, Elk Park, died Friday, July 13, 2007, at home.
Born Aug. 9, 1969 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Bartley Gene and Dorothy Jean Presnell Trivette. Mr. Trivette was a rock mason.
Surviving are: his wife, Gina Trivette; two daughters, Shawntae Wiseman of Spruce Pine and Tracy Trivette of Thomasville; two sons, Evan Green of New Mexico and Ethan Greene of Elk Park; one sister, Barbara Trivette of Boone; one brother, Wade Presnell; and his maternal grandmother, Anna Watson of Newland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bartley Jim Trivette.
Services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating was the Rev. Kenneth Banner. Burial followed in the Harmon Trivette Cemetery.

Marion Junior Vines
Mr. Marion Junior Vines, 65, of Devoult Bridge Road, Piney Flats, Tenn., died Wednesday afternoon, July 11, 2007, at the home of his sister in Elk Park.
He was born May 24, 1942, in Butler, Tenn., a son of William Arthur and Sarah Geneva Hicks Vines.
Mr. Vines was a member of Union Baptist Church in Hampton, Tenn., and was a housepainter.
Survivors include four sisters, Marie McGuire of Mt. Holly, Lexie Trivett of Bristol, Tenn., Dora Wagener of Minnesota, and Shirley Harmon and husband, Allen, of Elk Park; two special friends, Willie Reha and Raymond Leagon; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur and Sarah Geneva Hicks Vines; one sister, Edna Gegogeine; six brothers, Claude, Loyd, Ted, Lester, Gene and Jerry Vines; and an infant brother, Gravis Wade Vines.
Services were conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Bobby Stout. Burial followed in the Flat Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Thelma Worsey
Mrs. Thelma Worsey, 92, of 1521 Friendship Church Road, Boone, died Thursday afternoon, July 12, 2007, at Glenbridge Health Care.
Mrs. Worsey was born June 18, 1915 in Copiah County, Miss., a daughter of the late Howard and Ruby Jane Young Sellers. She was a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Junior College and a real estate broker for Thelma Worsey Real Estate Company in Miami, Fla., for more than 40 years. Mrs. Worsey was a member of First Baptist Church of Boone.
Mrs. Worsey is survived by one son, Howard F. Worsey, and wife, Mary Ann, of Boone; one granddaughter, Tara Christina Rill, and husband, Robb, of Gainesville, Fla.; and one sister, Billie Rellis, and husband, Eric, of Kona, Hawaii. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Henry.
Services were conducted at 11 at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating was Dr. Wayne Brown. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Boone, 375 West King St., Boone, N.C. 28607.
