Blood, Sweat and Gears: The Harkey Invitational
Randy Feimster will have a different outlook at the Blood, Sweat and Gears Saturday, which begins at Valle Crucis. Instead of riding behind five-time ride winner Chris Harkey, he’ll have a front-row seat in front of the Mount Pleasant native. Read more.

Finding a football team to support

Hardee headed to the beach
Pete Hardee has done plenty in his baseball career, both playing and coaching. Hardee, the head baseball coach at Watauga, adds the title of assistant coach for the North Carolina-South Carolina baseball all-star games, which will be played Friday and Saturday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Read more.

Greene inks with Rangers
Former Watauga slugger Jonathan Greene has signed a contract with the Texas Rangers, according to the Western Carolina Web site. Read more.

Undefeated season
The Watauga County Parks and Recreation 9- to 10-year-old baseball championship was won by the team sponsored by Beef O’Brady’s, which finished its season with an undefeated record. Wildcats take second
The Watauga Wildcats were awarded second place in the USSSA Southern Summer Bash held Sunday in Kingsport, Tenn. The Wildcats, behind the pitching of Cameron Guyton and hitting of Aury St. Germain, beat the Bristol Cyclones 10-9. Gyton pitched a complete game and St. Germain had three stand-up doubles. The Wildcats lost to the East Tennessee Select Team in their second game in 90-degree heat. Pictured are, left to right, front row: Jesse Illich, Just St. Germain; second row. Hardee, Moyer participate in State Games
GREENSBORO — The North Carolina Baseball State Games, open to rising juniors and seniors, can draw a crowd, especially for teams that can win a few games.
Region 7, Watauga’s region, played for the bronze medal in the two-day, four game event, but fell and settled for fourth place. Read more.

Goode captures victory
Paul Goode, the director of tennis at Hound Ears Club and the head tennis coach for men and women at Lees-McRae, won the Heart Fund tournament at Yonahlossee Racquet Club Sunday. Read more.
