Corbin’s headed to Lees-McRae, Forsyth to ASU
Throughout the Randy McDonough era, Watauga’s track and field program has sent several athletes to compete at colleges all over the Southeast. He’s also sent a few to programs in Watauga’s own backyard. Read more.


ASU signs forward
Appalachian State women’s basketball has added its fifth newcomer to the 2007-08 squad as it received a commitment from 6-2 forward Taylor Lake, Mountaineers coach Adrienne Shuler announced Tuesday.

Buzz hired by Bobcats
CHARLOTTE (AP) — Buzz Peterson is leaving coaching to join Michael Jordan.
Peterson resigned Tuesday as coach at Coastal Carolina to become director of player personnel for the Charlotte Bobcats. Jordan, Peterson’s former college roommate and teammate at North Carolina, is part-owner of the Bobcats and has final say on all basketball decisions. Read more.

Men’s track/cross country — The Appalachian State University men’s cross country and track and field programs have received commitments from seven student-athletes to compete for ASU beginning in the fall of 2007, ASU head cross country coach Mike Curcio and director of track and field and cross country John Weaver announced Monday. Jonathan Greene goes in eighth round of MLB draft
Watauga baseball coach Pete Hardee used to hide behind his team’s dugout whenever Jonathan Greene came to the plate. Now those who coach third base for the Texas Rangers and their farm system get their chance to do the same. The Rangers made Greene their eighth selection in the Major League Baseball First-Time draft during the second day Friday. Read more.

For four years, South Caldwell left-hander Madison Bumgarner looked like a giant on the mound. After Thursday’s Major League Baseball First-Time draft, Bumgarner has a chance to be a Giant. Read more.
