Bike ride Gears up again

Mountaineers secure fourth seed in tourney
GREENSBORO — This has been a year of milestones for Appalachian State’s baseball team. First was the fact that the Mountaineers would finish over .500 for the first time since 1996. Then there was the fact that they won 30 games in a season for the first time since 1986, when the finished 40-13-1. Read more.
Callihan headed to UGA
Appalachian State head volleyball coach Chad Callihan has been named assistant coach at Georgia, UGA head coach Joel McCartney announced Friday. Callihan spent four years at the helm for the Mountaineers, having compiled an 88-45 (.662) overall record at the school. He led the team to two Southern Conference regular season titles, two SoCon tournament championship matches and a 56-13 (.812) league mark.

Brown takes 2nd in shot, 3rd in discus
GREENSBORO — Watauga’s Paris Brown briefly threw the shot put and the discus while in eighth grade. In the ninth grade, she tried it again, but was hampered by injuries. So Brown, a senior, was essentially in her rookie season throwing the two objects this season for the Watauga girls’ track and field team. After her performance at the state 4-A state track and field championships at North Carolina A&T Saturday, she could easily qualify as the Pioneers’ rookie of the year. Read more.
