NIT Analysis: Ole Miss coach focused on stopping Minter, Thompson
OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy knew he had to come up with a way to stop, or at least slow down, two of Appalachian State’s most potent weapons. Donte Minter, ASU’s 6-foot-9 center, had scored 14 points in the first 24 minutes of the Mountaineers’ game with Mississippi, and really was not being slowed down a whole lot by the Rebel defense. Pioneers shut Patriots out, 12-0
The Watauga High baseball team used a seven run 2nd inning to snap a four game losing streak and beat the Freedom Patriots 12-0 in five innings. Watauga (2-4, 1-1 NW4A) starter Tyler Moore (2-0) allowed the first two Patriot (1-5, 0-1 NW4A) hitters to single but would only allow three hits after that. Pioneer notes: WHS finishes in well-fought fourth
TAYLORSVILLE — In its most recent match of the season, Watauga’s boys’ golf team finished fourth against six Northwestern 4-A Conference rivals at Brushy Mountain Golf Course. That may not sound terribly impressive at first glance. However, a closer look showed the Pioneers were just six strokes off meet winner South Caldwell. Watauga finished with a 318, just one stroke behind fourth place Alexander Central’s 317 and two strokes behind second place Freedom’s 316. South won with a match low 312. Read more.

Reilly stops Spartans’ bats
Watauga pitcher Nicole Reilly battled illness during the offseason. It seems that Reilly has recovered nicely from it. Reilly struck out nine Spartans and walked four in Watauga’s win at the Carroll Complex. Read more.
