Lois Edna Henson
Mrs. Lois Edna Henson, 82, of 919 Medical Park Drive, Mountain City, Tenn., died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Mountain City Care Center.
She was born in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Enoch and Martha Ann Cornett Isaacs.
Mrs. Henson was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She loved traveling.
Survivors include three sons, Baxter Henson and wife, Debbie, of Charleston, S.C., Wayne Henson and wife, Jane, of Jackson, Tenn., and Gary Henson and wife, Teresa, of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Blanche Presnell of Zionville, and Shirley Sanders of Lenoir; one sister-in-law, Jean Ward of Vilas; two brothers, John Isaacs of Sugar Grove, and Joe Isaacs of Lenoir, and a special friend, Janice Hawkins. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Henson; two brothers, Rom and Ben Isaacs, and one sister, Wanda Smith.
Services were conducted Wednesday morning, Feb. 28, 2007, at 11:00 o’clock, at the Henson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Norman officiating. Burial followed in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

Melvin “Sonny” Lail
Mr. Melvin “Sonny” Lail, 63, of Newton, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.
He was born May 18, 1943 in Boone, N.C., the son of the late Troy Pardue and Earline Marie Bentley Lail.
Mr. Lail had retired from Conover Police Department, had worked for K-Mart’s and was currently employed with Griffith’s Security. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church in Catawba.
Survivors include daughters, Melea Glen Lail of the home; Marina Lail Kelly of Bradford, Ontario, Canada; Marisa Lail Setzer of Newton, N.C.; and Merrie Ann Lail Boltin of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Lindsay Alaine Setzer, Bradley Hugh Setzer, Scott Andrew Kelly, and Claire Marie Kelly; sisters, Margaret Lail Johnson of Hickory, N.C., and Donna Lail Pope of Granite Falls, N.C.; brothers, Dallas Eugene “Gene” Lail of Mississippi, Lonnie Dale Lail of Hickory, N.C., and Ricky Wayne Lail of Hickory, N.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Ann Sims Lail; and a stepson, Thomas Russell Sims.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Pisgah United Methodist Church. Rev. Robert Silber will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday at Drum Funeral Home in Conover.

Treva Bolick Austin Young
Mrs. Treva Bolick Austin Young, 78, of Hickory, formerly of Lenoir, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007 at Frye Regional Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 23, 1929 in Caldwell County.
Mrs. Young was retired from CWS Fashions as a seamstress and a member of Mt. View Baptist Church in Hickory.
Survivors include her children, Eric Austin and wife, Brenda, of Granite Falls; Mrs. Faye Edwards and husband, Leonard, of Mars Hill; Mrs. Karen Lambert and husband, Jack; Mrs. Laura Hammerick and husband, Ray, and Mrs. Gloria Robinson and husband, Don, all of Lenoir. She was “grandmother” to her 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Her sisters surviving her are Reba Ford, Alice Hicks and Elizabeth Pope; and surviving brothers are Lester, Boyd, Glenn, Dell and Dan Bolick. She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Her step-children are Bob Young, Judy Morris, Jim Young and Diane Stephenson.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Atwell Austin and Bennie Young, Jr.; her parents, Vernon and Macie Bolick; a sister, Lena Laws Tignor; and son, David M. Austin.
The family will receive friends Saturday, March 3, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at Kings Creek Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. at Kings Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Brent Bolick, the Rev. Sonny Bolick and the Rev. Todd Smith. Interment will follow at Kings Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Robert “Bobby” Calvin Orr
Mr. Robert “Bobby” Calvin Orr, 49, died Feb. 3, 2007 in High Point, N.C.
He was born Feb. 4, 1957 in Morganton, N.C. The family moved to Jamestown, N.C. when Bobby was one year old and he lived in Jamestown 43 years. He was the son of the late Theodore A. Orr III and Anita B. Orr.
Mr. Orr was the former owner of Bob Orr Plumbing where he served Jamestown and surrounding communites. He loved fishing in City lake as well as the coast and rivers alike. He also had a passon for cooking and love to cook for others. He will always be remembered as one who had a kind heart and would do anything for anyone.
Surviving are one daughter, Jennifer Mosood of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Theodore (Teddy) A. Orr III of High Point, N.C. and John Steven Orr and wife, Regina; and two children, Jonathan and Katie of Tennessee; one sister, Mary Ann Minor of Boone, N.C.; and one niece, Pamela (Stacey) Wainscott and husband, Ken, of Lexington, N.C.
Memoral service will be held at Jamestown Methodist Church, Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 4 p.m.

Anita Lynn Farthing Patterson
Anita Lynn Farthing Patterson passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007.
She was born July 24, 1963, in Watauga County, a daughter of Jo Ann Hicks Farthing and the late Dwight Auston Farthing.
She was a nurse and worked at Johnston Memorial Hospital and at Abingdon Health Care for Women. She was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church in Sugar Grove.
Surviving are two sons, Bradley Ward of Banner Elk, and Chris Ward of Boone; her mother, Jo Ann Hicks Farthing of Sugar Grove; two sisters, Beverly Carroll and husband, Kenneth Carroll, Jr., and Karen Aldridge and husband, Brian, all of Mountain City, Tenn.; two brothers; Dwight “Bud” Farthing and Darren Farthing, both of Sugar Grove.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dwight Auston Farthing.
Services were conducted Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Farris Funeral Home in Abingdon, Va.

Philip Lee Buchanan
Mr. Philip Lee Buchanan, 71, of Pine Cluster Lane, Newland, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 at his residence.
A native of Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Sam and Ruth Pittman Buchanan.
Mr. Buchanan was a real estate broker.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Keller Buchanan; two daughters, Ruth Eileen Buchanan of Springfield, Missouri and Andrea B. Turbyfill of Crossnore, N.C.; two step-sons, Stephen Ira Vance of Baltimore, Md. and Jason Scott Vance of Newland, N.C.; one step-daughter, Lisa Renae Vance of Newland, N.C.; two brothers, Wade Buchanan of Marion, N.C. and James Avery Buchanan of Maryland; one sister, Mary Ruth Alger of West Virginia; two grandsons, Jacob Lane Keener and Hayden Christopher Vance; two granddaughters, Sage Nicole Turbyfill and Lauren Renae Mauney.
Services were conducted Saturday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Darren Waldrop officiating. Iterment followed in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery in Spruce Pine, N.C.

Charles Larry Kerley
Mr. Charles Larry Kerley, 74, of Chestnut Drive, Boone, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 24, 2007.
He was born Nov. 8, 1932 in Watauga County, a son of Don and Bina Watson Kerley.
Mr. Kerley was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired ward clerk at the Blowing Rock Hospital.
He is survived by two daughters, Victoria Lucretia Kerley of Boone and Linda Kerley Jones and husband, Tim, of Granite Falls; one son, Scott Kerley of Boone; three granddaughters, Denette Isaacs, Brianna Winebarger and Brittany Lackey; and one brother, Steve Hartley of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by a daughter; Lisa Kerley; six brothers; and one sister.
Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. T.J. Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Critcher Cemetery.

Addie Mae Edmisten Love
Mrs. Addie Mae Edmisten Love, 89, of Bethel Road, Sugar Grove, went to be with the Lord Tuesday evening, Feb. 20, 2007 following a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 23, 1917 in Sugar Grove, a daughter of the late Marshall Harrison and Mary Annie Perry Edmisten.
Mrs. Love spent most of her life in Sugar Grove. She attended cosmetology school in Hickory, N.C., and operated her own shop for many years. Mrs. Love’s customers counted her as a friend as well as a stylist. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and anyone who came in contact with Addie Mae Love knew of her kindness and gentleness. They also knew of her steadfast devotion and unwavering encouragement to those she loved.
Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Love Ensminger and husband, Richard, of Blowing Rock; one granddaughter, Nannette Lennitt of Lake Worth, Fla.; one grandson, Franklin Howard Ensminger of Texas; several great-grandchildren; a special friend, Terry Main; two sisters, Louiva Ward of Sugar Grove and Madeline Bradford of Winston-Salem; four sisters-in-law; Loy and Leta Mae Edmisten and Jennie and Ruby Love, all of Sugar Grove; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Franklin Howard Love; and three brothers, George, Baker and John Edmisten.
Services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Calvary Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Maurice Ward and the Rev. Quincy Norris. Burial followed in the Bethel Cemetery.

Kathy Lynn Yates Palmer
Mrs. Kathy Lynn Yates Palmer, 50, of Deck Hill Road, Boone, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007.
She was born Feb. 10, 1957 in Watauga County, a daughter of Howard and Cora Trivette Yates.
Mrs. Palmer was employed at the Swiss Mountain Village Resort. She was a member of the Baird’s Creek Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, J. P. Palmer; two daughters, Keva Palmer of the home and Jennifer Dickens and husband, Donald, of Maylene, Ala.; one son, Jason Palmer of the home; two sisters, Debbie Moretz and husband, Ted, of Boone and Judy Lambert of Vilas; three brothers, Billy Yates and wife, Sharon, of Foscoe, Bobby Yates and wife, Frieda, of Morganton, and Kevin Yates of Bangor, Maine; and two grandchildren, Michael and Haley Dickens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Cora Trivette Yates.
Services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Burl Greer. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 until 8:30 at Austin & Barnes.

Marion Edith Noel Shaffer
Mrs. Marion Edith Noel Shaffer, 93, went to be with her Lord on February 22, 2007.
She was born in Delphos, Kansas, June 29, 1913, to the late Guy D. and Dorothea Noel.
Mrs. Shaffer lived in South Florida for 45 years, moved to Vilas, N.C. in 1971, and returned to Florida to live with her daughter for the last several years.
Mrs. Shaffer was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church, and served as treasurer for five years of the United Methodist Women.
She was employed by the Federal Government for 33 years.
After retiring to North Carolina in 1971, she was very active in the Boone Worthwhile Women's Club and the North Carolina Extension Homemakers Club.
She was past-president of the County Council of Extension Homemakers for two years, Advisor for two years, as well as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Beaver Dam Volunteer Fire Department.
She will be dearly missed by all who were acquainted with her and all who loved her.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Noel Burmeister and husband, Harold; son, Michael Shaffer and wife, Patti; and a stepson, Charles Albert Shaffer and wife, Esther; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She also leaves one sister, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one infant son; her son, Charles Patrick Shaffer; and her husband, Samuel G. Shaffer.
A memorial service is planned for later.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Haven Hospice of Gainesville, Fla.

Wanda J. Walsh
Mrs.Wanda J. Walsh, 90, formerly of Collettsville, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 at Glenbridge Healthcare and Rehabilitation of Boone.
She was born June 22, 1916 in Caldwell County, to the late Henry and Ella Radar Johnson.
Mrs. Walsh was retired from Bernhardt Furniture Industries and was a homemaker. She was also a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Denny Carroll Walsh of Mountain City, Tenn.; two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Holman and husband, Albert, of Lenoir and Mrs. Irene Sanders of Benton, Ark.; and numberous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, D.A. Walsh; and two brothers.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Rocky Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to High Country Healthcare Hospice, 136 Furman Rd., Boone, N.C. 28607.
