I Have a Dream Week
It seems ironic that next week’s celebration of love and diversity was initially inspired by a planned demonstration of hate, but according to Cindy Pacileo, one of I Have a Dream Week’s founders, that’s the way the story goes. When members of the community learned a local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan was planning marches in Boone and Blowing Rock for that April 19, 1992, they reacted by planning events of their own, but these events were to embrace cultural differences rather than reject them. Overturned
The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of a single-car accident in which a Jeep overturned early Monday afternoon. An ambulance carried at least one victim from the scene with unspecified injuries. By Tuesday morning, the state Highway Patrol had not released the names, or the number, of those involved in the crash. Safety experts urge us to toss out that tree
You decked the halls admirably this year. Dazzled the neighbors with the 25-foot nativity scene shaped entirely of silver and gold neon tubing. Played Santa at the second-grade recital. Recovered much faster than anyone thought possible after that unfortunate choose-and-cut accident. And the tree was the sensation of the little Christmas Eve get-together with Mom, Aunt Sally and Uncle Rolff. was a wonderful holiday, everyone agrees. Now, throw out the tree. It’s served its purpose, but now it’s overstayed its welcome. Get rid of it. Read More
