Mountaineers run over Umass, win second national title

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Appalachian State’s Kevin Richardson needs no directions to the end zone, especially when a national championship is on the line. Massachusetts found that out Friday night. Commentary: ASU shows real heart in showdown

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. —I‘m sure there is a class hidden deep within the curriculum required for student athletes everywhere, a class where phrases like “This is a team game,” and “I was just running through the holes my offensive line gave me,” are repeated endlessly until the student's eyes glaze over and any hope of variation is forever lost.

Appalachian State claimed a 13-point lead early in the first half and never looked back in its 63-52 victory over the Phoenix at the Holmes Center Saturday night.

Spartans pull off sweep of Pioneers

Foul trouble proved to be too much for Watauga’s boys’ basketball team to overcome in a 79-72 loss to South Caldwell Friday at Lentz-Eggers Gym.  Seth Moore had to settle for eight points, mostly because he missed the second and third quarters because he had three fouls. The 6-foot-6 center picked up two quick fouls in the first quarter and added a third before coach Rob Sanders could take him out of the game.
