Margaret Lorene Greene Eubanks
Mrs. Margaret Lorene Greene Eubanks, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, N.C., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at NorthEast Medical Center.
She was born May 30, 1922, in Watauga County.
Mrs. Eubanks worked for the City of Concord Light and Water as a clerk. She was a former member of the Business Professional Womens Club. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Concord.
Survivors include three daughters, Ramona Eubanks Barnhardt and husband, Ray, of Wilmington, N.C., Margaret Eubanks Johnson and husband, Steve, of Mt. Pleasant, N.C., and Scarlette Eubanks Haynes and husband, Jeff, of Concord, N.C.; two sisters, Leaanis Burbage of Crescent City, Fla., and Earlena Adams of Boone, N.C.; grandchildren, Deann, Rene, Erin, Matthew, Rebekah, Jordan and Meghan; step-grandchildren, Roger, Christie, Angela and Steven; great-grandchildren, Kaya, Iley, Alana and Hannah; step-great-grandchildren, Jacob, Nikki, Makala, Remi and Timothy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Murray Greene and Sally Norris Greene; a son, Ronald Wayne Eubanks; a grandson, Jacob; and two brothers and one sister.
Services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord, with the Rev. Frank Williams officiating. Burial will follow in West Concord Cemetery in Concord.
The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 12:30-2 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Robert Sherman Oliver
Mr. Robert Sherman Oliver, 82, of Three Top Road, Creston, died Monday morning, Nov. 27, 2006, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born May 11, 1924 in Milligan, Tenn., a son of the late Sherman and Donia Lewis Oliver.
Mr. Oliver was a World War II veteran, and was retired as a lumber grader. He was a member of Zionville Baptist Church, where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member.
Survivors include his wife, Cora Leigh Trivette Oliver; one daughter, Nettie Leigh Mahala of Creston; one grandson, Robert C. Mahala of Creston; two sisters, Mattie Lewis of Todd and Torence Rash of Todd; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Trivette.
Services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.
The family received friends Thursday afternoon from 1-2 p.m. at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.

Martha Mae Taylor Segraves
Mrs. Martha Mae Taylor Segraves, 89, of West Jefferson, died Monday morning, Nov. 27, 2006, at her residence.
She was born in Ashe County on March 19, 1917 to the late Wiley Everette Taylor and Ethel Cox Taylor.
Mrs. Segraves was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Lewis Segraves; one daughter, Ethel Baker of Crumpler; four sons, Jerry Segraves of West Jefferson, Johnny Segraves of Laurel Springs, Garland Segraves of Sparta and Garnett Segraves of Fleetwood; three sisters, Loretta Neaves of Crumpler, Wylene Fitzgerald of Wilkesboro, and Marie Setzler of Ohio; two brothers, Dean Taylor and Mick Taylor, both of Glendale Springs; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel officiated by the Rev. Fred Jennings and the Rev. Sonny Thomas. Entombment followed in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

H. Hight Dotson
Mr. H. Hight Dotson, 93, of 682 Adams Road, Mountain City, Tenn., died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, at his residence.
He was a native of Watauga County, a son of the late W. Roy and Ennis Hagaman Dotson.
Mr. Dotson was a member of the First Baptist Church in Boone. He was a retired teacher and federal government employee. He enjoyed golf and other sports.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Dotson; three daughters, Lillian D. Matros of Johnson City, Tenn., Alice D. Oeben of Sugarland, Texas, and Mary D. Cartlege of Virginia Beach, Va.; two step-daughters, Kimberly H. Kavanaugh of Forest, Va., and Tamara H. Talvott of Gretna, Va. Three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and a special friend, Michele Osborne, also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ola Furr.
A memorial service was conducted Tuesday morning, Nov. 28, 2006, at 11 a.m., at Henson Funeral Home Chapel in Mountain City, with Dr. Michael Pelt officiating.

Mrs. Jean Wilson Ellison, 83, of 123 South Road, Todd, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at Watauga Medical Center.
She was born April 15, 1923, in Ashe County, a daughter of the late Hamilton and Emma Price Wilson.
Mrs. Ellison was a homemaker and a member of Elk Knob Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Earlie Jean Munday of Creston and Yvonne Shelton and husband, Allen, of Vilas; a son, Gary Ellison and wife, Jan, of Todd; five grandchildren, Glenda Wallace of Trade, Tenn., Melissa Pruitt and husband, Kevin, of Todd, Terry Munday and wife, Melissa, of Creston, Randall Munday and wife, Donna, of Carolina Beach, and Derrick Ellison and wife, Jamey, of Vilas; 12 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Donley Ellison; one grandson, Timmy Shelton; three great-grandchildren, Joseph Munday and twins, Landon and Abigale Pruitt; her father and mother, Hamilton and Emma Price Wilson; four brothers, Russell, J.C., Fred, and Clarence Wilson; and four sisters, Nell Thomas, Imogene Barlow, Pauline Donnelly and Louise Bookman; and a son-in-law, Kermit C. Munday.
Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 29, 2006, at 2 o’clock at Elk Knob Baptist Church. The body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Herbert McCoy and the Rev. Dwayne Tester. Burial will follow in the Ellison Family Cemetery in Todd.

Donald Bland Wagner
Mr. Donald Bland Wagner, 87, formerly of Grayson Park Road, Statesville, and a resident of Jurney’s of Statesville, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 26, 1918 in Watauga County, and was the son of the late William Haga Wagner and Disia Etta Greene Wagner.
Mr. Wagner attended Watauga County schools and was a retired farmer. He was a long time member of the Baptist Church in Statesville at Monticello Baptist Church, and for many years, since 1941, had been a member and had been associated with Laurel Springs Baptist Church, Deep Gap, N.C. At Laurel Springs he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Sunday School Teacher. Since 1944 he had been an Ancient, Free and Accepted Mason with Ashler Lodge #373, Deep Gap, N.C. He had been a Master Mason for 62 years.
Mr. Wagner was preceded in death by three sisters, Eliza W. Moretz, Clara W. Whisnant and Luna W. Crane, along with two brothers, Bruce Wagner and Clifford Wagner.
Services will be conducted Wednesday morning, Nov. 29, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Comer officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with the Rev. Brent Bolick officiating, and Masonic graveside rites offered by Ashler Lodge #373 will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Laurel Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Deep Gap, N.C.

Yvonne DeVane Carter
Mrs. Yvonne DeVane Carter, age 72, of Teaberry Hills, Boone and Orlando, Fla., died Saturday night, November 25, 2006 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
She was born May 3, 1934 in Lake City, Florida, a daughter of the late John Homer DeVane, Sr., and Nena Belle Ramsey.
Mrs. Carter taught for 40 years in Orange County public schools. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Orlando, Fla., and attended the First Presbyterian Church in Boone. She was an avid volunteer, serving the Orlando Police Department, the Orlando Science Center and Historical Society and was a member of the Christian Writers Group.
Surviving are one daughter, Cathy Ziegler and husband, Steve, of Boone; two sons, Craig Alan Carter of Winter Park, Fla., and Kevin Gene Carter and wife, Marianna, of Longwood, Fla.; one brother, Harvey D. DeVane and wife, Mary Frances, of Lake City, Fla.; one sister, Jeanne DeVane Gruetzmacher of Tampa, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Jason Alan Carter, Cory Alan Carter, Neil Alan Carter, Mark Thomas Ziegler, Jessie Nicole Carter, Tiffany DeVane Carter, Kelsey DeVane Ziegler, and Kristopher Gene Carter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Gene Carter.
Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock at the First Presbyterian Church, officiated by Dr. Ron Bowie. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church.

Elizabeth Neill Fortune
Mrs. Elizabeth (Lib) Neill Fortune, 87, of Blowing Rock, went to be with the Lord, Thursday morning, Nov. 23, 2006.
She was born in Charlotte, N.C., the daughter of the late Buren S. Sr. and Bessie Neill.
The Neill family soon moved to Kings Mountain, and after graduating from Meredith College, Mrs. Fortune married her Kings Mountain high school sweetheart, Jack Fortune. For almost sixty years, they were husband and wife. Jack and Lib settled in Hickory, raised a family and later retired to their dream home in Blowing Rock where they spent the remaining wonderful years of their lives. As their health declined, they were welcomed into their daughter’s home in Matthews.
Mrs. Fortune, a people person, truly loved her family, her friends and her church. Although her loving spirit will be sorely missed, she will never be forgotten.
Survivors include her younger brother, Robert H. Neill and his family of Charlotte; and by her three devoted children, Jack Fortune, Jr. and his wife, Libby, and their children Bernard, Joey and Nickie of Salisbury; Susan F. Crossley and her son, Brad S. Crossley and his wife, Kristen, of Matthews; and W. Neill Fortune and his wife, Glenda, of Charlotte and their sons Dr. Brett E. Fortune and his wife, Dr. Rachel, of Columbus, Ohio and Scott S. Fortune and his wife, Jennifer, and their son Lukas of Charlotte; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack B. Fortune; and her brothers, Buren S. Neill Jr. and David M. Neill.
A celebration of Lib Fortune’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Hickory, N.C. at 311 Third Street NE with the Rev. George M. Freeman officiating. The family will gather after the service to greet friends in the church parlor.

J.B. Greene
Mr. J.B. Greene, 55, of 846 Meat Camp Road, Boone, died Thursday night, Nov. 23, 2006.
He was born Sept. 3, 1951, in Watauga County, a son of Burl Jonathan Greene, Sr. and Gladys Jones Greene.
Mr. Greene was a farm owner and owner of J.B. Greene Construction Company. He was a member of the North Carolina Christmas Tree Growers Association and a member of Meat Camp Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Marie Greene; one daughter, Kelly M. Greene; and one son, Burl J. Greene, III, both of Boone; one sister, Lanetta G. Byrd and husband, Gary, of Marion; three brothers, Darrell Greene, Bill Greene and wife, Sherry, and Robert Greene and wife, Renee, all of Boone; and his mother-in-law, Doreatha Greene of Boone. He is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John F. Greene, Sr.

Mrs. Clara Lee Hodges Hayes, 83, of 1902 Hickory Blvd., Lenoir, a former resident of Vilas, died Friday morning, Nov. 24, 2006, in Glenbridge Health Care Center.
She was born Sept. 5, 1923 in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Joel Bynum and Mamie Coffey Hodges.
Mrs. Hayes was a retired warehouse assistant for Singer Furniture Company.
She was a member of Hibriten Baptist Church and a member of the church choir.
Survivors include two daughters, Mamie H. Ford and husband, Paul, of Lenoir, and Carole H. Isaacs and husband, Glenn, of Granite Galls; one son, Roy B. Mr. Gene M. Isaacs, 80, of 732 Hodges Gap Road, Boone, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 12, 1926, in Watauga County, a son of the late Don and Ora Eggers Isaacs.
Mr. Isaacs was a retired carpenter for Risk Construction Company in Boone.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Phillips Isaacs; two daughters, Kathy Isaacs of Boone, and Sherry Bishop and husband, Benjamin, of Hickory; one granddaughter, Brittany Bishop of Hickory; three sisters, Marie Greene of Wilkesboro, Madeline Johnson of Fayetteville, and Mary Lea Thomas of Boone; one brother, Gordon Isaacs and wife, Betty, of The Dalles, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Isaacs of Boone, and Edith Isaacs of Vilas. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dean, Jim and Ralph Isaacs.
Services were conducted Saturday morning, Nov. 25, 2006, at 11 o’clock, at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed in Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

Ellen Faye Houck Norris
Mrs. Ellen Faye Houck Norris, 90, of 565 Kirby Branch Road, Zionville, died Friday morning, Nov. 17, 2006, at Life Care Center in Banner Elk.
Mrs. Norris was born Aug. 13, 1916 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Jeff and Alice Norris Houck. She was a member of Union Baptist Church.
Mrs. Norris is survived by three daughters, Joyce Colvard of Clemmons and Geneva Stevens and husband, William, and Cindy Eller and husband, Jim, all of Zionville; two sons, Jimmy Norris of Zionville and Gary Norris and wife, Marisa, of Winston-Salem; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Norris of Pfafftown; and a sister-in-law, Louise Houck of Fleetwood.
She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Bethelview United Methodist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Allen Marsh. Burial was in the Norris Tabernacle Baptist Church Cemetery.

Rose Edna Lewis Ragan
Mrs. Rose Edna Lewis Ragan, age 82, of 813 South Alabama Avenue, Chesnee, South Carolina, and formerly of the Rich Mountain community, died Friday evening, Nov. 24, 2006 at her home.
She was a native of Green County, Pa., and was a daughter of the late Fred Hugh, Sr. and Oma Pennington Lewis. She was the widow of James Arlton Ragan.
Mrs. Ragan was a member of the Rich Mountain Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeanie S. Ragan of Chesnee, S.C. and Betty R. Eggers and husband, John, of Boiling Springs, S.C.; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Ragan of Vilas; and one sister, Joyce Triplett and husband, Arlie, of Deep Gap.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Frank and Johnny A. Ragan; two daughters, Peggy Ann Ragan and Linda Ragan; one brother, Fred Lewis, Jr.; and two sisters, Helen Miller and Nelle Hollar.
In Chesnee, the family will receive friends Monday evening, November 27th. from 7 until 8:30 at Eggers Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Rich Mountain Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Harold King, the Rev. James Hagaman and the Rev. Carter Moretz. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 until 2 o’clock, prior to services, at Rich Mountain Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Culler Cemetery.

Bradley Keith Roberts
Mr. Bradley Keith Roberts, 76, of 106 William St., Emerald Isle, N.C., formerly of Raleigh, went home to be with his Lord early Tuesday morning, Nov. 21, 2006.
He was born in Wendell, N.C., a son of the late John Bradley and Luna Greene Roberts.
Mr. Roberts was a graduate of Guilford College in Greensboro.
He was a member of the adult steering committee for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Wake County. He was a sponsor of Cary High School FCA for 3 years and he sponsored Sanderson High Schools FCA for 7 years. He met weekly with these high school groups. He instilled his love for Jesus in the lives of many young people.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Kay Roberts; sons and daughters-in-law, Bradley H. (Buck) Roberts and Jennifer Roberts of Boone, and their children, Timothy A. Roberts and Kevin A. Roberts; Darrell T. Roberts and Kimberly Roberts of Boone, and their children, Brittany, Benjamin and Joshua Roberts; brother and sister-in-law, Ted G. and Rosemary Roberts of Wendell; sister, Jo Ann Hupp of Wendell.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mack I. Roberts.

John E. ‘Jack’ Robbins
Mr. John E. “Jack” Robbins, 82, of 205 Fox Run Ridge Drive, Blowing Rock, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 22, 2006, at Blowing Rock Hospital.
He was born July 1, 1924, in Blowing Rock, a son of the late Lloyd and Alma Benfield Robbins.
Mr. Robbins was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served in both the Korean War and World War II. After serving his country, he returned to Blowing Rock and became one of the best known and most respected builders of his time. He, along with his father, Lloyd, also a well known builder, built many of the older and first homes in Blowing Rock. Together, the two built such famed Blowing Rock landmarks as the “Seven Stories” house in Mayview.
Survivors include one daughter, Janey Campbell and husband, Patrick, of Blowing Rock; one grandson, Christopher Ryan Campbell of Blowing Rock; and two sisters, Alice Robbins Newton of High Point, and Eleanor Robbins Kiney and husband, Terry, of St. Petersburg, Fla. He is also survived by five nieces and eight nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Lee Robbins; two sisters, Jo Cessna and Elizabeth Taylor; and two nieces and one nephew.
Military graveside services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2006, at 1 o’clock, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock. Officiating will be the Rev. Rhonda Gailes.
The family will receive friends Friday evening, Dec. 1, 2006, from 6-8 p.m., at Hampton Funeral Service.

Mrs. Winebarger was a member of Proffit’s Grove Baptist Church and for more than 40 years, she was a clerk at Smithy’s Store in Boone.
Mrs. Winebarger is survived by one daughter, Jewel Greer and husband, Curtis, of Boone; two sons, Larry Winebarger of Lenoir and Randy Winebarger of Boone; four grandchildren, Candy and Zachary Winebarger, Ricky Greer and Meredith Morgan and husband, Jim; one step-grandson, Jeffrey Hamby; five great-grandchildren; one step-sister, Stella Lawrence of Zionville; one sister-in-law, Barbara Reece of Boone; and three daughters-in-law, Dot Winebarger and Brenda Winebarger, both of Boone, and Carrie Cozart of Lenoir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Alfred Winebarger; one son, Lewie Winebarger; one sister, Wilene Reece; three brothers, Wheeler, Oakley and Gene Reece; and her parents.
Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Proffit’s Grove Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Delmar James. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1 until 2 o’clock, one hour prior to services, at the church.
Burial will in the Proffit’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
