Playoff fever:

Pioneers get rematch with Rockets

Watauga’s football team felt it could have played better in its 31-6 loss to A.C. Reynolds back in October. Some even wondered if they’d get a chance at getting a rematch with the Rockets during the state 4-A playoffs.

ASU to host Coastal Carolina
Appalachian State added a possible three home games to its football schedule Sunday when it was awarded the top seed in the Division I Championship Subdivision.
Formally known as the Division I-AA playoffs, the next four weeks have a new name, but the same team that won it last year returns. The No. 1-ranked Mountaineers will begin their defense of their 2005 national championship Saturday against Coastal Carolina at Kidd Brewer Stadium, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
