Tim DeWayne Inman

Mr. Tim DeWayne Inman, 50, of 410 Howard's Creek Church Road, Boone, died Sunday evening, Oct. 22, 2006.

He was born May 2, 1956 in Midland, Michigan.

Mr. Inman was a self-employed Interior Designer.

Survivors include his mother, Glenna Inman of Boone; and two sisters, Pamela Torres and husband, Louis, and Sandra Henry and husband, Terry, all of Boone. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rex Inman.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday afternoon, October 28, 2006, at 1:00 o'clock, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Alan Blume and Pastor Ben Cox.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tim Inman Trust, in care of High Country Bank, 176 Shadowline Drive, Boone, N.C. 28607, or to Hospice of Avery County, 351 West Mitchell Street, Newland, N.C. 28657.

Mack P. Dishman

Mr. Mack P. Dishman, 82, of 5697 Old U.S. Hwy. 421, Zionville, died Friday morning, Oct. 20, 2006, at his residence.

He was born June 7, 1924 in Watauga County, a son of the late Spencer Cornelius and Maggie Smitherman Dishman.

Mr. Dishman was a retired mechanic for the North Carolina Department of Transportation for 32 years. He was a member of Mabel United Methodist Church, a Mason, and member of Snow Lodge #363.

Survivors include two sons, Glenn Dishman and wife, Deannie, of Zionville, and Eddie Dishman and wife, Kathy, of Trade, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Dawn Flarety and husband, Shawn, of Wilmington, Lora Wentz and husband, Elliott, of Greensboro, and Lisa Totherow and husband, Chris, of Zionville; two grandsons, Eric Dishman of Atlanta, and Preston Dishman of Trade, Tenn.; two great-grandsons, Cyrus Wentz and Mason Wentz, both of Greensboro; one great-granddaughter, Katina Addison Totherow of Zionville; three sisters, Dora Eggers and Dare Brown, both of Zionville, and Helen Dotson of Boone. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Eggers Dishman; one granddaughter, Katina Dishman; one brother, Glenn Dishman; and one sister, Georgia Lawrence.

Services were conducted Sunday evening, Oct. 22, 2006, at 7 p.m. at Mabel United Methodist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Judy Eury. Burial followed Monday morning at 10 a.m. at Mabel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mabel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, in care of J.C. Winebarger, 4166 Old U.S. Highway 421, Zionville, N.C. 28698.

Jere Diane Fleckenstein

Mrs. Jere Diane Griffitts Fleckenstein, 59, of Cullowhee, N.C., died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Mission Hospitals.

A native of Knoxville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Claude Jerome “Buster” Griffitts and Jessie Martin Griffitts; and was also preceded in death by her former husband, Gary Holcomb.

She will be remembered by all the people she touched with her care for the mentally challenged, those stricken with Alzheimer’s disease, those less fortunate than herself and her endless love of animals. By those and her family she will forever remain a true humanitarian.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Tom Fleckenstein; a daughter, Ashley Newell and husband, Aaron, of Asheville, N.C.; a sister, Tina Jennings and husband, Jim, of Rocky Forge, Ga.

A memorial service will be held Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Miller officiating.

The family will receive friends following the services and requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, N.C. 28801-2644 or to the World Wildlife Fund, P.O. Box 97180, Washington, D.C. 20090.

Hunter Xander West Jones Covington

Hunter Xander West Jones Covington, infant, of Mooresville died Oct. 19, 2006 at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.                                         

He was born Oct. 12, 2006 in Mooresville, the son of Renae Nicole Jones of Mooresville and adoptive parents Christian and Angelique Covington of Boone.

He is also survived by brother and sisters, Sunshine, Christian, Forrest, Summer and Honor Covington of Boone;  grandparents, Roy and Paulette Jones of Mooresville, Herman and Nona Noblitt of Boone, Joyce Anderson of Charlotte and Ralph and Betsy Covington of Concord; aunts and uncles, Travis and Brandon Jones of Mooresville, Jason and Melissa Noblitt, Todd and Danielle Ray, Thai and Doug Williams, Matthew Covington and Graham Charles Graham; great-grandparents, Charles and Karen Crump of Clinton, MO and Roy and Rena Jones of El Dorado Springs, MO; and great-great-grandparents, Lorene Walters of Clinton, MO and Hattie Jones of El Dorado Springs, MO.

   Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 at Howard’s Creek Baptist Church in Boone with the Rev. Mark Chaney officiating. Burial will follow in the Graham Family Cemetery in Todd, N.C.

Lewis Talmadge Parrish

Mr. Lewis Talmadge Parrish, 75, of Goldsboro, N.C., and formerly of Ashe County, N.C., died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C.

He was born March 18, 1931, in Brunswick County, N.C.

Mr. Parrish completed a distinguished 33 year career with Centenary College in Hackettstown, N.J. where he was professor-department chair of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State University and Master Degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill and Appalachian State University.

Survivors include three sons, Ret. USAF Maj. Lewis Michael Parrish and wife, Karen, of Melbourne, Fla., USAF Msgt Eric Parrish and wife, Nancy, of Fayetteville, N.C., and USAF Tsgt George Parrish and wife, Stacie, of Goldsboro, N.C.; a daughter, Tama Parrish Byrnes and husband, Steven, of Simpsonville, S.C.; two sisters, Leta Carol Helton and husband, Carrol, of Terrell, N.C., and Rose Ellen Cheers and husband, Jack, of Cocoa, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Jean Harmon Parrish; a son, Jeffrey T. Parrish; and his father and mother, William and Leona Evans Parrish.

Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., Oct. 25, in the Willow Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to New Hanover Hospitality House of Wilmington, 1612 Medical Center Dr., Wilmington, N.C. 28401.

Willis A. Moretz

Mr. Willis A. Moretz, 79, of 139 Howards Creek Road, Boone, died Friday morning, October 20, 2006, at his residence.

He was born March 20, 1927 in Watauga County, a son of the late Herbert Cleveland Moretz, Sr. and Pearl Carpenter Moretz.

Mr. Moretz was a retired school administrator for Catawba and Watauga County. He served with the United States Navy during World War II. He was also a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Boone.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pearl Jones Moretz; two sons, Wayne Moretz and wife, Sherri, of Granite Falls, and Ronnie Moretz and wife, JoAnn, of Boone; three granddaughters, Pam Nederhoff and husband, Dwayne, of Raleigh, Kyaleah Moretz of Granite Falls, and Savannah Moretz of Boone; three grandsons, Andrew Moretz and wife, JoAnn, of Banner Elk, Quannah Moretz of Asheville, and Cody Moretz of Boone; two great-granddaughters, Julie Watson of Raleigh, and Sarah Moretz of Banner Elk; four great-grandsons, Casey Watson and Dwayne Nederhoff, Jr., both of Raleigh, Brandon Moretz of Banner Elk, and Noah Moretz of Granite Falls; two brothers, H.C. Moretz and wife Phyllis, and John Walter Moretz and wife, Barbara, all of Boone; and one sister-in-law, Betty Moretz of Boone. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Coffey; and three brothers, George Moretz, Roy Moretz, and Clayton Moretz.

Services will be conducted Tuesday morning, Oct. 24, 2006, at 11:00 o'clock, at Bethany Lutheran Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00 until 11:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Pastor Tom Hehenberger and Pastor John Bollinger.

Military graveside rites and burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, from 7:00 until 9:00 o'clock, at the funeral home.

Flowers are appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, 1030 Big Hill Road, Boone, N.C. 28607.

Lois L. Russell

Miss Lois L. Russell of Davant Extended Care, Blowing Rock, N.C., formerly of Lenoir, passed away at Davant Extended Care on Oct. 19,  2006.

She was born in Caldwell County, July 18, 1927 to the late John Clinton and Celia Hamby Russell.

Miss Russell is survived by a niece, Sheila Chandler of Lenoir.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Russell of Lenoir and Ed Russell of Baltimore, Md.

A graveside service will be performed at Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, N.C. on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Sam Craven officiating. Burial will follow in the Catawba Memorial Park Cemetery.
