Pioneers cage Cougars 8-1

Watauga’s No. 1 seeded tennis player Brianna Fleming didn’t get the complete shutout she wanted Tuesday afternoon, but she’ll take a straight-set win any day.  Fleming not only wanted to beat Alexander Central’s Kayla Fox 6-0, 6-0 like she did, but she did not want to lose a point. That plan was foiled in the first set, but her victory helped Fleming celebrate Senior Night in style.

Tharrington grows into job as right defensive end

They are the life of any offense. Without them, the best quarterbacks or running backs can’t operate.  They’re the offensive linemen and at Watauga, it’s no different than any place else. Pioneers punch Patriots in the mouth

There are plenty of reasons why Watauga’s 14-7 win over Freedom was so good. Of course, there’s the obvious one. Watauga had not beaten the Patriots since 1984. There have been some close calls, such as the overtime loss in 2000. There have been some blowouts, such as last year’s 34-15 loss in Morganton.
