The Boone Area Chamber of Commerce announced the appointment of Ginny Campbell as director of administrative services.

Campbell succeeds Laurette Leagon, chamber vice president who held the same title.
“Ginny has tremendous qualifications,” said Dan Meyer, chamber president. “With 20-some years in business accounting and handling financial concerns of business, she brings a lot of resources that were kind of untapped in her former role.”
Campbell had served as the chamber’s manager of marketing and member services for three and a half years, before last week’s promotion. Meyer said Campbell will assume Leagon’s duties immediately.
“She has proven herself here to be a great supporter of the chamber, and it just made sense to bring her into that new role,” he said. “She had previously been cross-trained in all of the financial aspects, so it should make a very smooth transition for her.”
Apart from her experience at the Boone chamber, Campbell brings 26 years of accounting and finance background to the table, having worked in Williamstown, Mass. and Melbourne, Fla. for several government contractors.
She had visited Boone for years for choose-and-cut Christmas trees and Thanksgiving and made the official move three and a half years ago. “I traded my drive in the mornings on the beach to the mountains on the Parkway,” she said.
As director of administrative services, Campbell will handle the chamber office’s finances, along with the Boone Convention and Visitor Bureau’s, reporting to executives with the board of directors, as well as Meyer. Human resources also falls under that administrative umbrella, for both the chamber and bureau.
She also intends to enjoy the position’s other responsibilities, including events planning. “It’s a fun thing to do,” Campbell said. “Everyone is different, every year is different and every event is different, so it kind of adds some variety to the job.”
Most of all, Campbell looks forward to dusting off her calculator and returning to the realm of finance. She anticipates the transition will be seamless, thanks to chamber staff.
“We have a great group of employees here,” she said. “We’re a well-oiled wheel, so I think it’ll be a smooth transition, and I have to thank Laurette for that.”
