John Daniel Bumgarner II
Mr. John Daniel Bumgarner II, 40, of Patterson and Blowing Rock, died instantly in a multi-vehicle accident in Harrison County, Mississippi, September 15, 2006.
He was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, February 5, 1966.
Since early 2006, Mr. Bumgarner had been employed in the Gulf Coast area, working with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts as an artistic stone mason.
Mr. Bumgarner, a 1984 Hibriten High School graduate, became a highly decorated U.S. Naval veteran while serving in the Persian Gulf War. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time outdoors with his very special nieces.
Survivors include his parents, John D. “Reb” Bumgarner I, of Patterson, and Phil and Peggy Neal of D’Iberville, Mississippi; his sister, Terrie Anne Fisher and her husband, Rick, of Pass Christian, Mississippi; three special nieces, who were the loves of his life, Bailey, Abbey, and Emma; his girlfriend, Neile Grist, of Blowing Rock and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many many friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Percy and Lena Bumgarner of the Buffalo Cove Community in Caldwell County, and his maternal grandparents, James and Alda Nelles of Oil City, Pa.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Buffalo Cove Baptist Church, Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 at 2:00 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Dr. Bill Pipes and Evangelist Gurney Robbins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society in memory of his beloved grandparents.
John II has a special gift for those who attend his celebration of life service. The family will be meeting in the Buffalo Cove Community Park following the service for a special time with family and friends.

Liliana was born Sept. 10, 1998 in Mexico, Anadacy was born Feb. 28, 2000 and Clarita was born June 7, 2001, both in Durham. They were all students at Cove Creek Elementary School.

Dale Franklin Keller Sr.
Mr. Dale Franklin Keller Sr., 90, of Greensboro, N.C., died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at River Landing At Sandy Ridge, Colfax, N.C.
He was the son of Arthur Keller and Bina Mae Culler of Watauga County.
Mr. Keller was awarded a bachelor of science degree by Appalachian State University (UNC-Appalachian) and holds a master’s degree from Columbia University, New York City.
He entered the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a civilian scientist during World War II, contributing to the work on the counter-artillery radar.
Mr. Keller served as the audio visual director for the Greensboro City schools and subsequently as Women’s College audio-visual director (UNC-G).
He was one of the original founders of the Starmount Presbyterian Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Shriners and the Greensboro and Surf City Jaycees. Mr. Keller was active in the Urban Ministry of Greensboro.
Survivors include two sons, W. Robert Keller of Hyattsville, Md., and Dale F. Keller Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of Lexington, Ky.; and grandchildren, Erin Barbee of White Fish, Mont., and grandsons Dale R. Keller and Benjamin R. Keller of Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Billie K. Kornegay of Mount Olive, N.C., in December 2003; his parents, Arthur Keller and Bina Mae Culler; and a brother, Beach Keller.
A private family memorial service will be held at Starmount Presbyterian Church Columbarium at a later date.

Jimmy Ronald Brown Sr.
Mr. Jimmy Ronald Brown, Sr., 57, of 224 Brown Hollow Road, Creston, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born June 9, 1949 in Watauga County, a son of Thelma Greer Brown and the late Glenn Franklin Brown.
Mr. Brown was a heavy equipment operator for the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, survivors include two sons, Jimmy Ronald “Jamie” Brown, Jr., and Brian Lynn Brown, both of Creston; three sisters, Sue Price and husband, Robert, of Mountain City, Tenn., Kathy Snyder and husband, Howard, Jr., of Creston, and Marty Jones and husband, Lannie, of Crumpler; one brother, Dale Brown of Creston; and a special friend, Earle Jean Munday of Creston. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2006, at Friendship Baptist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Maurice Ward and the Rev. Tom Stephens. Burial followed in the Brown Family Cemetery.
Friends may call at the home of the mother, Thelma Brown, 632 South Road, Todd.

Claire Blevins Cecila Durfee
Ms. Claire Blevins Cecila Durfee, 51, of Winter Drive, Boone, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 13, 2006 at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born July 17, 1955 in Miami, Fla., a daughter of Mary Laubacher Blevins and the late Elmer Grayson Blevins.
Ms. Durfee attended the Central Assembly of God Church in Boone.
Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Grace Jensen and Rachelle Lee Wooten, both of Houston, Tex.; one son, David Brooks of Hominy, Okla.; her mother, Mary V. Blevins of Houston, Tex.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Grant Blevins and his wife, Joyce, and Patrick J. Blevins, all of Houston, Tex.; and two sisters, Ann Marie Head of Walterboro, S.C. and Theresa A. Barker of Houston, Tex.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date in Houston.

Estel Frank 'Eck' Greene
Mr. Estel Frank “Eck” Greene, 89, of 679 Joe Shoemaker Road, Vilas, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, at Mountain City Care Center.
He was born June 26, 1917 in Watauga County, a son of the late Zillar and Rosie Isaacs Greene.
Mr. Greene was a retired plumber for Winkler’s Plumbing and Heating in Boone. He was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Katy Sue Hodges and husband, Terry, of Vilas; two brothers, Fred Greene and wife, Anna Mae, of Vilas, and Ralph Greene and wife, Jo, of Sugar Grove; and one grandson, Jeremy Franklin Hodges and his wife. One great-granddaughter, two step-great-granddaughters, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Perry Greene; one sister, Pearl Greer; and one brother, Ivey Greene.
Services were conducted Friday afternoon, Sept. 15, 2006, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Delmar James officiating. Burial followed in Cove Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jack Norman Greer
Mr. Jack Norman Greer, 69, of Calebway Road, Boone, died Thursday morning, Sept. 14, 2006, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 20, 1936, in Watauga County, a son of Jacob Roscoe and Annie Lois Miller Greer.
Mr. Greer was a member and Deacon of Howard’s Creek Baptist Church. He retired as a mechanic supervisor from Shadowline and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Moretz Greer; three sons, Norman Greer of Boone; Nelson Greer and wife, Lynn, of Boone; and Steven Greer of Deep Gap; two grandchildren, Tanner and Tara Greer, both of Boone; three sisters, Lena Norris of Boone; Emma Kultgen of Sheboygen, Wisc.; and Gail Hayes and husband, David, of Elk Creek, Va.; four brothers, Leonard Greer and wife, Marney, of Deep Gap; Johnny Greer and wife, Doris, of Boone; Elton Greer and wife, Shirley, of Lenoir; and Grant Greer and wife, Ethel, of Morganton, N.C.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, at the Howard’s Creek Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Mark Chaney, the Rev. Joe London, and the Rev. James Hagaman. Burial followed at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.
The family suggests memorial donations to Howard’s Creek Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Howard’s Creek Baptist Church Youth Ministry, 240 Howard’s Creek Church Road, Boone, N.C. 28607.

Lois Forfar Introcaso
Mrs. Lois Forfar Introcaso, age 78, of 1240 Briarwood Lane, Boone, died Thursday morning, Sept. 14, 2006, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 16, 1928 in Newark, N.J., a daughter of the late Hugh and Ruth Johnson Forfar.
Mrs. Introcaso was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Introcaso; two sons, Stephen Introcaso and wife, Lynn, of Lyncroft, N.J., and Gregg Introcaso of Boone; and three granddaughters, Brianna Introcaso, Crista Introcaso, and Cara Introcaso, all of Lyncroft, N.J.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Forfar.
Services will be conducted Tuesday morning, September 19, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Damiano Funeral Home Chapel in Long Branch, N.J. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, N.J.
The family will receive friends at Damiano Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Monday, Sept. 18, 2006.

James Marvin Norris
Mr. James Marvin Norris, 48, of 139 Monteagle Drive, Boone, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born June 27, 1958 in Watauga County, a son of Ray and Mandy Brown Norris.
In addition to his parents, survivors include one son, Lonnie Price and wife, Drema, of Creston; four sisters, Linda Nadeau and husband, Keith, of Lenoir, Betty Brown, and Kathy Hayes and husband, David, all of Boone; and Susan Holman and husband, Leonard, of Zionville; and his fiancee', Pam McMillan, of Boone; two granddaughters, Nevada Price and Carrie Price, and one grandson, Shelton Price, all of Creston.
Graveside services and burial were conducted Saturday morning, Sept. 16, 2006, at the Hampton Cemetery. Officiating was the Rev. T.J. Jackson and Dr. Robert S. Ellison.
Friends may call at the home of a sister, David and Kathy Hayes, 326 Milton Brown Heirs Road, Boone.

Clyde Wilson
Mr. Clyde Wilson, 94, of 108 Megan Lane, Boone, died Sunday morning, Sept. 17, 2006, at his home.
He was born July 4, 1912, in Watauga County, a son of the late Arlie Gaither Wilson and Bessie Agnes Wilson. He and Tincy were married for 61 years.
Mr. Wilson received his education in Watauga County Schools. He was a veteran of World War II. He served in the European Theater as a Technical Sergeant with a Battery 429th Engineers. After his discharge in 1945 he was employed as a sales representative for Babson Brothers in North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. He moved from Watauga County to High Point in 1956. He was employed as a departmental supervisor at Olympic Products, a division of Cone Mills Corporation in Greensboro until his retirement in 1977.
He was a member of Greenway Baptist Church, The Adcock Sunday School Class and The Upper Club. Also a member of American Legion Post 130 in Boone and Post 206 in High Point.
Survivors include his wife, Maude “Tincy” Wilson; one daughter, Kathryn Wilson Strader and husband, John, of Chapel Hill; two step-grandchildren, Jonathan Strader of Santa Monica, Calif. and Joanna Strader of Gainesville, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Jeane Wilson of Creston. He is also survived by three nephews and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Arlie Gaither Wilson and Bessie Wilson; two brothers, James Boyd Wilson and Ernest Grant Wilson; and a nephew, Robert James Wilson.
Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Greenway Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 1-2 p.m. Officiating will be Dr. David Luster and the Rev. Harold Bennett. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Service.
