ASU picked to repeat as league champs
GREENVILLE, S.C. — The defending I-AA National Champion Appalachian State football team ended the annual Southern Conference Media Rouser with a handful of preseason accolades, including the top spot in both the media and coaches preseason polls and 12 players on the league’s preseason all-conference team.

Storm ninth in nation
ORLANDO, Fla. — The Watauga Storm 14-under girls YBOA basketball team finished tied for ninth in the national championship tournament July 8-15. The 14-under age group had 29 teams, the largest of any of the age groups, divided into pools with the winners facing off. Watauga finished with a 4-5 overall record. Each team was guaranteed at least five games.

Gilbert gets head start on ASU career
GREENSBORO — Cortez Gilbert was courted by South Carolina while a senior at Charles B. Aycock High School, located in Pikeville, a small town about 10 miles north of Goldsboro. In fact, he told rivals.com that he loved his visit to South Carolina.

ASU headed to Puerto Rico
Appalachian State men’s basketball team will face Atlantic Coast Conference foe Virginia in its first of three games at the San Juan Shootout on Dec. 19. Tipoff between the Cavaliers and Mountaineers, is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Mario Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.
