Card game in Green Valley

Card, a Greensboro-based writer, lectured to a group of academically gifted middle school students at Green Valley School on Monday concerning his science fiction works. Card is well-known for his novel “Ender's Game,” as well as its sequels. “Ender’s Game” is currently in development as a possible movie screenplay with Warner Brothers. Besides these and other science fiction novels, Card writes contemporary fantasy (“Magic Street,” “Enchantment,” “Lost Boys”), biblical novels (“Stone Tables,” “Rachel and Leah”), the American frontier fantasy series “The Tales of Alvin Maker,” poetry (“An Open Book”), and many plays and scripts. April 27 — Howard Thomas Anton, 60, of 2473 Isell Chapel Rd., Valdese, was served with a warrant alleging one misdemeanor count of assault on a public official. He was placed under a $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear in District Court May 24.

Farmer's market opens
Business is brisk for Virgie Moretz as she weighs produce for sale in a stall at the Watauga County Farmer’s Market in Boone. Laurelmor responds to protests
