Commentary: Playoff fields do not need to expand

I’ve always preferred to earn my keep.  Maybe that’s the main problem I’ve always had with playoffs in North Carolina. Each scholastic season of each year I’ve been here, I’ve looked up and down playoff brackets and seen teams that have not earned playoff eligibility and some that had no business being mentioned in the same breath as those at the top of the bracket.

Watauga dumps Cavs, claims NWC title
After losing it to Freedom for the first time in a long time last season, Watauga’s boys’ tennis team reclaimed the Northwestern 4-A Conference championship Thursday. Last time Watauga played East Burke, it was tight early before the Pioneers pulled away to victory. In Thursday’s rematch at the Carroll Complex, they pulled away early and won 6-3.

CHARLOTTE — With part of their team taking off for spring break, Watauga’s track and field team still turned in a good performance at the Queen City Relays in Charlotte Saturday.
