Waving for wireless

Joshua Marsh waves to cars as they pass the intersection of Blowing Rock Road and Shadowline Drive in Boone. Marsh, an employee of Liberty Tax Service, holds up a sign requesting donations of recycled cell phones. According to Liberty Tax Service general manager Maryann Holder, for each cell phone donated with a battery attached, 100 minutes in the form of a calling card will be donated to troops overseas. Weather for the birds

A lonely goldfinch finds a perch Saturday to watch the falling snow on Dutch Creek Road in Valle Crucis. Although it was nice to look at, the weekend snowfall didn’t linger  very long; however, about one-half to one inch of snow fell  Sunday night, closing Watauga County schools Monday.
