Lafayette, Appalachian is here
Appalachian State started the 2005 season unranked and still smarting from a rough 2004 campaign. Eleven games later, Appalachian State can call itself the undisputed Southern Conference champion and the No. 2 seed in the Division I-AA playoffs.

ELON — For a playoff warm-up, it went exactly as planned. Appalachian State, which found out Sunday it would host Lafayette in the first round of the Division I-AA playoffs, turned up for the game by overwhelming Elon 52-14 in front of 6,472 at Rhodes Stadium.

Warriors roll past Watauga
LENOIR — West Caldwell High School will have a low power bill throughout the winter if their boys’ basketball team keeps shooting the lights out a couple nights each week. The Warriors beat Watauga 63-42 Friday night in the season opener for both teams. West Caldwell (1-0) shot over 50 percent from the field and over 50 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.
