Patricia L. Crisp

Mrs. Patricia L. Crisp of Bradenton, Fla., passed away Nov. 9, 2005.

She was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Great Falls, Montana, and was educated at the University of Colorado and Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.

Mrs. Crisp has been a resident of Bradenton, Fla. since 1968 and a seasonal resident of the Town of Seven Devils from 1991 to 2001. Her life was devoted to her husband, five children and seven grandchildren. She was a life-time member of the Manatee Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a past president.

Survivors include her five children, James Crisp, Jr., Nancy O’Neill and husband, John; Park Crisp and wife, Terri; Barbara Capogna and husband, Al; Beth Carney and husband, Gaylord; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Ragan, Brooke Crisp, Preston Crisp, Vincent Capogna, Nicholas Capogna, Mary O’Neill, Michael O’Neill; one niece, Linda Iwakami; and one nephew, Kenny Godfrey.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James Crisp.

A private family service was held on Nov. 14, in Bradenton, Fla.

Donations may be made to the Bishop Animal Shelter SPCA of Manatee in Bradenton, Fla., in memory of Patricia L. Crisp; or to Hospice of Watauga County, 136 Furman Road, Boone, N.C. 28607.

 

Roger Dean Glenn

Mr. Roger Dean Glenn, 52, of Sugar Grove, died Sunday morning, Nov. 20, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.

He was born Feb. 18, 1953, in Boone, Watauga County, to the late Dudley and Priscilla Presnell Glenn.

Mr. Glenn was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Joleen Glenn Eastridge and husband, David, of Creston; three sisters, Martha Jean Ward and husband, Dean, of Sugar Grove; Ms. Barbara Woodring of Shelby and Ms. Wanda Hollers of Mountain City, Tenn.; one brother, Charlie Glenn and wife, Shirley, of Banner Elk. He is also survived by two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Glenn; a sister, Mary Alice Glenn; and a brother, Roy Lee Glenn.

Services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Wilson and the Rev. Gene Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Antioch Church Cemetery.

Sibyl Richardson Perry

Mrs. Sibyl Richardson Perry, 100, of Linda Lane, Vilas, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at home.

She was born in Alleghany County, N.C., Jan. 28, 1905, a daughter of the late John Richardson and Minnie Upchurch.

Mrs. Perry owned and operated Sibyl’s Beauty Salon on Grandview Street, North Wilkesboro, N.C.

Survivors include one granddaughter, Wanda Councill and husband, Bill, of Vilas, N.C.; three grandsons, John Williams and wife, Nancy, of Charlotte, N.C., Tommy Bauguess and wife, Sandy, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Donnie Perry of Statesville, N.C.; one daughter, Norma Perry Hauser of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one sister, Vera Burgman of Bel Aire, Md.; 13  great-grandchildren, including Catrinia Councill of Boone, Bill Councill of Vilas, and Pamela Osborne of Vilas; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd A. Perry; one son, Cameron Perry; one daughter, Paula Williams; and five sisters, Pansy Taylor, Bernice Parsons, Johnnie Joines, Lois Belvens, Oleta Mabe; and one brother, James Richardson.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Mount Lawn Memorial Park in North Wilkesboro, N.C., officiated by the Rev. Ken Pauley and the Rev. Tim Kitchene.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Watauga County, 136 Furman Road, Boone, N.C. 28607.

Mr. Roger Dean Glenn

Mr. Roger Dean Glenn, 52, of Sugar Grove, died Sunday morning, Nov. 20, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.

Mr. Glenn was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Joleen Glenn Eastridge and husband, David, of Creston; three sisters, Martha Jean Ward and husband, Dean, of Sugar Grove; Ms. Barbara Woodring of Shelby and Ms. Wanda Hollers of Mountain City, Tenn.; one brother, Charlie Glenn and wife, Shirley, of Banner Elk. Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Antioch Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 1-2 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Carl Wilson and the Rev. Gene Smith. Burial will follow in the Antoich Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Service.

Hampton Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

 

Deanna Debra Hampton

Ms. Deanna Debra Hampton, 50, of 1790 Deerfield Road, Boone, died Sunday morning, Nov. 20, 2005, at home.

She was born Sept. 3, 1955, in Boone, Watauga County, to the late Thomas Sherrill “Bill” Hampton and Bertie Norris Hampton.

Ms. Hampton was a graduate of Watauga High School and a retired cashier from Lowe’s Hardware. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Debbie H. Underwood of Vilas; and one son, James Hall of Boone; two granddaughters, Montana Underwood and Cheyenne Underwood, both of Vilas; one brother, Sherrill Hampton and wife, Regina, of Boone; and three nieces, Monica, Vonda and Christy.

Services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock at Friendship United Methodist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Friendship Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 10-11 a.m. at the church, prior to the service.

Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Hampton family, in care of Debbie H. Underwood, 163 Dove Acres, Boone, N.C. 28607.

Hazel Cook Hampton

Mrs. Hazel Cook Hampton, 89, of Deerfield Road, Boone, died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 19, 2005 at home. 

She was born in Watauga County, Nov. 29, 1915,  a daughter of the late Charles Lee and Laura Thompson Cook. 

Mrs. Hampton was a life long resident of Watauga County, a homemaker and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Jackie H. Hawkins of Mountain City, Tenn., and Peggy H. Lyons and husband, James C. “Red” Lyons, of Boone; one daughter-in-law, Jane D. Hampton of West Jefferson; two brothers, Hugh and Haden Cook of Boone; one sister, Edna Cook Greene of Lenoir; one half brother, Kenneth Cook of Boone; eight grandchildren, Diana Worley, Terry Hawkins, Larry Hawkins, Charles Hawkins, Craig Lyons, Scott Lyons, Brian and Jerry Hampton; eleven great-grandchildren; a special relative, Miss Edna B. Hampton of Boone; and a number of nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Hampton; one son, Steve Canter Hampton; a son-in-law, Paul Hawkins; two brothers, George and Worth Cook; and three sisters, Mrs. Ola Critcher, Mrs. Flo Cook and Mrs. Clara Miller.

Services for Mrs. Hazel Cook Hampton will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Friendship United Methodist Church,  officiated by the Rev. Mike Howard.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 12:30 until 2 o’clock at Friendship United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. 

The family respectfully requests no food or flowers and suggests memorials to Hospice of Watauga County, 136 Furman Road, Boone, N.C. 28607 or to Friendship Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, in care of Donna Lyons, P. O. Box 401, Boone, N.C. 28607.

Margaret Moody Harmon

Mrs. Sarah Margaret Moody Harmon, 84, of 258 Burl Lawrence Road, Vilas, wife of the late Stacy Harmon, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, at Avante Nursing Care Center in Wilkesboro.

She was born Sept. 7, 1921, in Blowing Rock, Watauga County, to the late Will George and Beuna Ella Trivette Moody.

Mrs. Harmon was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one son, Norman Moody; two grandsons, Wilbert Moody and wife, Beth, and Kevin Todd Moody; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis Nicole Moody, all of Granite Falls; and three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Simmons of Vilas, Mrs. Viola Greene of Durham and Mrs. Irene Greer of Boone.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Betty Main Moody; three sisters, Mrs. Virlee Parlier, Daisy Helen Moody and Mrs. Inez Greene; and one brother, Dwight Moody.

Services were conducted this morning (Monday) at 11 a.m. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Melvin Hodges. Burial followed in the Danner Cemetery.

Jonathan “Jon” Frederick Moretz

Mr. Jonathan “Jon” Frederick Moretz, 33, of Grandfather Village, Blowing Rock, died Saturday morning, Nov. 19, 2005.

He was born Dec. 13, 1971, in Concord, Cabarrus County, to Steven Thomas and Elizabeth Marie West Moretz.

Mr. Moretz was a maintenance worker and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons, Raylee Moretz and Carson Moretz and their mother, Emily Wilson Moretz, all of Zionville; his mother, Libby Moretz of Boone; his father and step-mother, Steven and Kim Moretz of Boone; one sister, Angela Phillips of Mountain City, Tenn.; and one brother, Robert Moretz of Boone; his paternal grandparents, Earl and Ruby Moretz of Boone; maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Dallas Ray West and Janee West of Fort Payne, Ala.; two nieces, Crystal Phillips and Molly Phillips, both of Mountain City, Tenn.; and a special friend, Anne Franck of Blowing Rock.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Helen West.

Services were conducted this afternoon (Monday) at 2 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Tom Hehenberger. Burial followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to a Memorial Fund for the children, in care of Bethany Lutheran Church, 1030 Big Hill Road, Boone, N.C. 28607.

Rosa Lee Laws Rominger Wood

Mrs. Rosa Lee Laws Rominger Wood,  61, of Elizabethtown, Illinois, and a former resident of Watauga County, died Tuesday morning, Nov. l5, 2005 in Illinois.

She was born Sept. 26, 1944 in Neva, Tennessee,  a daughter of the late Luke and Beulah Dugger Laws.  

Mrs. Wood was a member of the Charity Independent Baptist Church in Vilas. After moving to Elizabethtown, Illinois, she enjoyed traveling with her evangelistic husband and became an active member of the Community Baptist Church.  Mrs. Wood loved flowers and was an avid gardener. 

 Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Hershel Wood; four sons, Tom Rominger, Ronnie Rominger and his wife, Nicki; Anthony Rominger and his wife, Lisa, and David Rominger; seven grandchildren; nine sisters, Alma Rominger of Zionville, Margie Rominger and Gladys Rominger and husband, Cecil, all of Vilas, Juanita Hicks and Rethia Britten, both of Hickory; Roma Jean Heaton and husband, Jim, and Betty Timbs and husband, Herman, all of Mountain City, Tennessee; Mae Belle Rominger and husband, Paul, of Cambridge, Ohio and Margaret Slaughter and husband, Dennis, of Uhrichsville, Ohio; two brothers, Ray Laws and wife, Alice, of Hildebran and J. B. Laws and wife, Cindy, of Vilas; four half-sisters, Bobbie Jo Laws, Linda Laws, Anna Laws and Mary Laws; two half-brothers, J. L. and Kenny Laws; her step-mother, Madge Rominger Laws; three step-sisters, Joyce and Judy Smith and Carol Hicks; and one step-brother, Larry Smith. 

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Charles Rominger; an infant son, Daniel Rominger; two sisters and a half-brother. 

Services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Charity Independent Baptist Church in the Bethel community, officiated by Pastor Kenneth Banner and Mr. Tim Blue. Burial followed in the Lower Beaver Dam Cemetery.

Aida S. Ybarzabal

Mrs. Aida S. Ybarzabal, 90, formerly of Bradenton, Fla. and New York City, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, at Watauga Medical Center.

She was born in Bayamo, Cuba and with her family, moved to New York City in 1953. A hairdresser by profession, she went on to own two fashionable beauty salons in New York City.

During the past four years she developed a love for watercolor painting and created a collection of very attractive works of art.

Survivors include her son, Leonard Cosmo and wife, Pam Cosmo, and her grandchildren, Dr. Leonard and Leigh Ann Cosmo, Dexter and Mayra Cosmo, Frank and Jannette Cosmo, Nat Norwood and Elizabeth Cosmo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco, born in Santander, Spain.

Private services were held at Hampton Funeral Home, Sunday, Nov. 20, at 3 p.m.
