BREAKING NEWS: Three charged with first-degree murder

in death of ASU student

Death at Sleepy Hollow

The Watauga County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the murdered man whose partially burned body was found in the trunk of a car in Foscoe on Tuesday morning.  Sheriff’s officials are not yet saying how Stephen William Harrington, 19, of Raleigh, a sophomore at Appalachian State University, died but have charged three men with first-degree murder.  Harrington was discovered by Foscoe volunteer firefighters when they responded to a vehicle fire just beyond a covered bridge on Sleepy Hollow Lane. They found smoke coming from a red Subaru Legacy, but no flames. When firefighters checked the trunk, they found Harrington’s dead body. Sheriff Mark Shook called in the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and later arrested Matthew Brandon Dalrymple, 20, of Bessemer City, N.C.; Kyle Quentin Triplett, 21, of Boone; and Neil Matthew Sargeant, 24, also of Boone.  All three men remain in custody without bond. They face a first hearing today (Nov. 9) and a district court date of Dec. 19.  Officials have not yet said why they think Harrington was murdered.  See the Friday edition of the Watauga Democrat for further details.
