Hackett’s motor never ran idle

Dino Hackett saved his best game for last at Appalachian State. Hackett, an inside linebacker at ASU, made a school record 27 tackles in a win over East Tennessee State back in the final game of the 1985 season. The Greensboro native wanted to have a huge senior season and capped it with a masterpiece to remember.

Pioneers host Cougars in regular season finale

Last call for football. Watauga’s football team has one last chance to become eligible for the playoffs and extend its season. A win over Alexander Central tonight at Jack Groce Stadium would give the Pioneers (3-7, 0-5 Northwestern 4-A Conference) their fourth win and put them up for playoff consideration.

Watauga’s girls’ tennis team saw its run through the state playoffs come to an end when they lost 5-1 to Providence on a chilly Wednesday night at the Carroll Complex.

It’s almost like Richie Williams is collecting Southern Conference awards. The Appalachian State quarterback, for the third time this season, was named the SoCon’s Offensive Player of the Week. He also earned the award following his performances against Furman and The Citadel.
