Ella Mae Hardin Baird
Mrs. Ella Mae Hardin Baird of Conover, N.C., died Sept. 25, 2005, at Luthen Home West.
She was born August 20, 1923, in Watauga County, to the late James Emery and Emma Carlton Hardin.
Mrs. Baird was a member of Clover Baptist Church, and was one of the founding members. She was retired, after 40 years service, from Shurford Mills, where she was a supervisor in the textile industry.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Maltba of Taylorsville, N.C., Brenda McFaddin of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and Janice Crum of Charlotte, N.C.; five brothers, Baxter Hardin of Fleetwood, N.C., Frank Hardin of Fleetwood, N.C., Guy Hardin of Bossier City, La., Roland Hardin of Chincoteague, Va., and Hubert Hardin of Prescott, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Bass-Smith Granite Funeral Service with burial in Sunset Hills. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service.
Bass-Smith Granite Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
Edward “Ed” Thomas Lagow
Mr. Edward “Ed” Thomas Lagow, 66, of Kellersville Road, Banner Elk, died Friday evening, Sept. 23, 2005, at his home.
He was born Oct. 30, 1938 in Jackson, Mich., a son of Clarence Allen and Rose Caython Lagow.
Mr. Lagow was a member of Beech Valley Baptist Church. He retired from Teamsters Local 959 in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving eight years in the military.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Shirley Hicks Lagow; three daughters, Belinda Swift of Tahlequah, Okla., Jeanette Small of Mountain City, Tenn. and Anita Luttrell and husband, Gary, of Anchorage, Alaska; three sons, Brian and Bill Lagow, both of Wewoka, Okla., and Eddie Lagow of Jackson, Mich.; one brother, Jack Lagow of Jackson, Mich.; two sisters, Cleo Winchell of Jackson, Mich. and Dorothy Daniels of Gainesville, Fla. Twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Elwood, Glory Andrews and Evelyn Butcher; and one brother, Clarence Lagow.
Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Beech Valley Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Bill Warren and the Rev. Quincy Norris. The body will lie in state at the church from 1-2 p.m. Burial with military honors will follow at the Harmon Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
