Iva L. Bishop
Mrs. Iva L. Bishop, 87, of Appalachian Brian Estates, Boone, formerly of Britton, Mich., wife of the late Clyde Nilwen Bishop, died Tuesday night, Feb. 1, 2005, at Blowing Rock Hospital.
She was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Meryl and Dana Flora Matthew Crick.
Mrs. Bishop was a farm owner in Britton where she and her late husband raised livestock and grain. She was a volunteer at Herrick Memorial Hospital in Tecumseh, Mich. and a mentor at Britton-Mackon Elementary School. She was an active life long member of Grace United Methodist Church in Britton and a member of the board of directors of Ridgeway Cemetery. She was also very active in community activities.
Survivors include one son, Charles N. Bishop and wife, Nancy, of Britton; two daughters, Louella Rundell and husband, John, of Boone and Sharon Hack and husband, Gary, of Hinckley, Ohio; one brother, Charles Lembrick and wife, Dorothy, of Tipton, Mich.; and one sister, Doris Bishop and husband, Bernie, of Punta Gorda, Fla. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a step-brother, Wayne Lembrick and a granddaughter, Jennifer Rundell Leach.
Services will be conducted Monday morning at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Britton, with the Rev. Amy Mayo Moyle and the Rev. David Eardly officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgeway Cemetery in Britton.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2-6 p.m. at Purse Funeral Home in Tecumseh, Mich.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee County, 415 Mill Road, Suite 4, Adrian, Mich. 49221-9996 or to a Cancer Foundation of the donorÕs choice.

Letty “Josie” Watson Callahan
Mrs. Letty “Josie” Watson Callahan, 84, of Kenilworth Avenue, Coshocton, Ohio, and a native of Watauga County, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born March 7, 1920 in Deep Gap, a daughter of Jerry and Myrtle Miller Watson.
Mrs. Callahan was a member of the Coshocton Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and participated in many church projects and activities. She was self-employed for more than 40 years.
Survivors include six sons, Glenn Ashley and wife, Ashley, of Springfield, Tenn., Floyd Ashley of Columbus, Ohio, Jerry Ashley and wife, Beckey, of Auburn Hills, Mich., Roger and James Ashley, both of Coshocton, Ohio; and Dwight Ashley and wife, Wanda, of Middleport, Ohio; three daughters, Linda Nolan and husband, Steve, of West Lafayette, Ohio; Faye Brown and husband, Tom, of Valencia, Pa.; and Cynthia Ashley of West Lafayette, Ohio; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Alfred Watson of Coshocton, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, George Ashley; two grandsons, Clint Ashley and Michael Bradford; three brothers, Joe, Max and Ted Watson; and four sisters, Ella Greer, Zella Garcia, Mary Reed and Annie Idol.
Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the Coshocton Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Coshocton County Memory Gardens.
The family suggests memorials to the Watson Cemetery, in care of Steve Idol, 9439 U.S. Highway 421 South, Deep Gap, or to the American Diabetes Association, 937 High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the Free Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Gary Dean Kilby, Sr.
Mr. Gary Dean Kilby, Sr., 70, of Boone, died Saturday morning, Jan. 29, 2005, at Catawba Memorial Hospital in Hickory.
He was born August 25, 1934, in Hickory.
Mr. Kilby was a graduate of St. Stephens High School in Hickory and Fox Valley Community College in Appleton, Wisconsin. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired Sergeant from the Appleton Police Department, after 20 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Hertzfeld Kilby; two daughters, Cindy Kilby of Connelly Springs and Sam Shannon and her husband, Steve, of Garner; one son, Gary Dean “Bud” Kilby, Jr. and wife, Darla, of Morristown, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Sarah and Michael Shannon of Garner and Zach and Nick Kilby of Morristown.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Neva Mae Kistler.
A private memorial service was held Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Tom Hehenberger.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Robert E. “Pop” Layng
Mr. Robert E. “Pop” Layng, 77, of St. Cloud, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at his home.
He was an owner of a machine shop in Rahway, N.J. until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Layng served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was an avid self-taught sailor. He was a carpenter and craftsman.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Layng; four daughters, Marian Bryk, Janice Romisoukas, Barbara Campbell and Melanie Besson; one son, Robert A. Layng; his step-children, Kenwood Geigel and Sandra Fodor; 13 grandchildren; and a brother, George Layng.
He was preceded in death by his older brother, Gilbert Layng.
A memorial service was held Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Fisk Funeral Home in St. Cloud.

Lillie Evans Atwood
Mrs. Lillie Evans Atwood, 93, of 140 Carson Blvd., Sparta, N.C., wife of the late Kilby H. Atwood, died Friday afternoon, Jan.28, 2005, at Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta.
She was born May 31, 1911, in Alleghany County, to the late Emmett and Cora Crouse Evans.
Mrs. Atwood was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Boyden Atwood and wife, Gelene, of Boone and the Rev. Larry Atwood and wife, Joy, of Sparta; one brother, Oscar “Doc” Evans of Sparta. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Jones; two brothers, Roy Evans and Robert Evans; and two sisters, Hazel Estep and Hattie Evans.
Services were conducted this morning (Monday) at 11 a.m. at Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta. Burial followed in the Antoich Cemetery in Sparta.

Omie Clemmie Watson Day
Mrs. Omie Clemmie Watson Day, 89, a resident of Glenbridge, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Watauga Medical Center.
She was born in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Marvin and Mattie Carlton Watson.
Mrs. Day was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Coleman Oliver and wife, Rachel, of Boone; one daughter, Verlee Oliver of Lenoir; one granddaughter, Debbie Mason of Boone; one grandson, Allen Oliver and wife, Jenny, of Lenoir; one great-granddaughter, Lisa Oliver of Lenoir; three great-grandsons, Thomas Mason and Luke Mason, both of Boone, and Harlie Oliver of Lenoir; and one brother, Willie Watson of Lenoir. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters; one brother; and two grandsons.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Teeler Parsons Greer, 92, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Deep Gap, N.C., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Florida.
She was born April 28, 1912 in Wilkes County, N.C., to the late Soloman Parsons and Stella Elizabeth Griffin Parsons.
Mrs. Greer was a member of Zacks Fork Baptist Church, and was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Talmadge Greer and wife, Joyce, of Granite Falls; three daughters, Agnes Chandler of Jacksonville, Fla., Omie Patrick and husband, Bob, of Charlotte, N.C. and Shirley West and husband, Harvey, of Lenoir, N.C.; three sisters, Hazel Dawson and husband, Raymond, of Wilkesboro, N.C., Katie Vickers and Mozelle Miller, both of Millers Creek, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 18 step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe H. Greer; one daughter, Betty Jean Greer; two step-sons, Raymond and Roy Greer; one step-daughter, Bertha St. John; and three sisters, Lucy Winebarger, Clair Freezline and Colar Greer.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Zacks Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. John Borders and the Rev. Joel Borders officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Joe H. Howser
Mr. Joe H. Howser, 77, of Highland Park Lane, Boone, died Sunday morning, Jan. 30, 2005, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born April 25, 1927 in Washington County, Tenn., a son of the late Rhea and Flora G’Fellers Howser.
Mr. Howser was a graduate of Washington College Academy. He was a retired hardware salesman, having worked for Summers Hardware for 40 years and for Wallace Hardware for eight years. He was a long-time member of Boone United Methodist Church, where he served as the Secretary for the Sunday School and was a member of the Methodist Men.
Survivors include his wife, June Broyles Hower; one daughter, Maxie Hester and husband, Luther, of Shelby, N.C.; three sons, Lee Howser and wife, Linda, of Limestone, Tenn., Steve Howser of Boone, and John Howser and wife, Leslie, all of Boone; one granddaughter, Keely Howser; four grandsons, J.P. Hester, Ben, Blake and Brooks Howser; and three sisters Ruth Henley and Ina Jarrett, both of Johnson City, Tenn., and Margaret Kyker of Telford, Tenn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Ben Henry Howser and Hagan Don Howser.
Services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock at the Boone United Methodist Church with Dr. George Naff and Dr. F. Ron Smith officiating. Faye Brown Miller
Mrs. Faye Brown Miller, 82, of 2612 Meat Camp Road, Boone, wife of the late Raymond Alfred Miller, died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 27, 2005, at home.
She was born Oct. 18, 1922, in Zionville, Watauga County, to the late Wilson Harve and Emma Winebarger Brown. Mrs. Miller was a retired housekeeper from Hound Ears Resort and the Cardinal Motel. She was a member of Zionville Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Nadine Nichols and husband, William; one granddaughter, Michele Nichols, and one grandson, Michael Nichols, all of North Wilkesboro; two brothers, Jack Brown and wife, Della, of Zionville and Ted Brown of Mountain City, Tenn.; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ann Miller and Mrs. Maggie Miller, both of Todd, and Mrs. Ocie Miller of Mountain City, Tenn. She is also survived by a special cousin, Pearl Winebarger of Boone and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Miller and his wife, Shelby Billings Miller; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Reece and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Brown; and two brothers, Frank Brown and Wade Brown.
Services were conducted Saturday night at 8 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Johnson and the Rev. Delmar James officiating.
Graveside services and burial were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

Fred. M. Rollins Jr.
Mr. Fred M. Rollins, Jr., 60, of 250 Milton Gragg Road, Boone, died Friday morning, Jan. 28, 2005, at home.
He was born Aug. 7, 1944, in Gastonia, to Sarah Smith Rollins and the late Fred Marshall Rollins.
Mr. Rollins was a graduate of Ashley High School in Gastonia and Lenoir Rhyne College. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Vocational Rehabilitation after 34 years of service as an executive counselor. He was a member and past president and Sergeant at Arms of the Boone Rotary Club. Mr. Rollins was a life long Presbyterian.
Survivors include his wife, Shannon Ifill Scott; one son, Matthew Rollins of Boone; his mother, Mrs. Sarah Rollins of Gastonia; and three sisters, Sherry Robinson and husband, Stacy, and Deanna Herlong and husband, Vaughn, all of Charlotte, and Jean Piercy and husband, R.F., of Gastonia; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Calvin and Meta Ifill of Boone (Foscoe); and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were conducted this afternoon (Monday) at 2 p.m. at Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Melanie Childers.
Shannon Scott will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 5, from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at the residence.

Robert Edward Stewart
Mr. Robert Edward Stewart, 76, of Fredrick’s Place, Granite Falls, N.C., died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
He was born in Ashe County, a son of Samuel and Emmer May Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was of the Baptist faith. He retired from Drexel Heritage of Hildebran.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Snyder Stewart; two sons, Larry Stewart of Granite Falls and Billy Stewart of Sugar Grove; one daughter, Bobbie Stewart of the home; two brothers, Elmer Stewart and Ronald Stewart, both of Creston; two sisters, Jennetta Potter of Granite Falls and Rosie Mains of Trade, Tenn. Three grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Delmar Stewart; and two sisters, Ruby Stewart and May Thomas.
Graveside services and burial will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Snyder Cemetery in the Creston Community, officiated by the Rev. David Ward.

Mary Elizabeth “Tootsie” Reid Teague
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth “Tootsie” Reid Teague, 67, of 5712 Reid Rd., Granite Falls, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, following an extended illness.
She was born on August 25, 1937 to the late Bingham Jones Reid and Faye Beach Reid.
Mrs. Teague was a member of Oxford Memorial Baptist Church, where she served many years teaching young children about Christ. Many lives have been touched throughout her life as she served as a PTA volunteer for 25 years at Oak Hill Elementary School, a volunteer for the Little River Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiallry and a toddler Sunday School and VBS teacher at Union Baptist Church. She retired from the Caldwell County School system where she worked in the cafeteria at Hibriten High School.
Survivors include her husband, Russell Maynard Teague, Jr.; her children & spouses, Melissa Davidson and husband, Lee, of Granite Falls, Scott Teague and wife, Gina, of Granite Falls, Mary Beth Woods and husband, Jeff, of Zionsville, N.C.; her grandchildren, Tyler Teague, Courtney Davidson, Laura Davidson, Mason Teague, Abram Teague, Makayla Woods and Corey Woods; two sisters, Emilie Hefner of Bethlehem and Becky Reid of Granite Falls; a very special aunt, Mary Bolick, of Granite Falls and many other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Rusty Teague; a step-granddaughter, Kisha White; three brothers, James “Jimmy” Reid, Alfred Reid and SMSGT David B. Reid.
Services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 1, at 3:30 p.m. at the Oxford Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Neal Walker and the Rev. Jim Outlaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Oxford Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Oxford Memorial Baptist Church.

Glenn H. Woodring
Mr. Glenn H. Woodring, 97, of Glenn Woodring Drive, Boone, died Thursday morning, Jan. 27, 2005 at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 7, 1907 in Watauga County, a son of Henry and Angelina Miller Woodring.
Mr. Woodring was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. After his retirement from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, he spent 22 winters in Florida. He enjoyed family and friends and liked good gospel singing and good preaching.
Survivors include his wife, Bina Lewis Woodring; three sons, Odell Woodring and wife, Lona, of Boone; Ronda Woodring and wife, Carol, of Hudson; and Earl Woodring and wife, Rachel, of Zionville; four daughters, Pearl Watson and husband, Nulan, of Boone; Ruby Idol and husband, Bill, of Deep Gap; Thelma Taylor and husband, Rabon, of Boone; and Wilma Sutherland of Boone; and one sister, Grace Davis Hollars of Banner Elk, N.C. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Ken Craig and the Rev. Fred Greene. Rev. Herbert McCoy conducted the entombment service at the Mount Lawn Mausoleum.
