Sports update: Pioneers advance to third round

Watauga trio to play in Games

Jennings Rex, Thomas Brown and Ben Robertson will all play soccer for the Region 7 All-Star team in the State Games, which are slated for June 12-15 in Greensboro.

Garinger no match for WHS depth

Taylor Cook captures state pole vault title
GREENSBORO — Taylor Cook made sure Watauga’s stranglehold on girls’ pole vaulting was as strong as ever.

Eagles fly past WHS
KERNERSVILLE — Watauga had lost to East Forsyth by just one goal earlier in the season. Yet Watauga coach Doug Kidd felt his team played an even better game in their 5-1 loss Friday night to the Eagles in the second round of the state 4-A playoffs.

ASU sweeps Paladins
It’s mathmatically impossible for Appalachian State to win the Southern Conference baseball championship. However, the Mountaineers made winning the SoCon much more difficult for Furman by sweeping the Paladins over the weekend.
